Student answer (Band 6.0)
The bar graph illustrates the value of one one country’s exports in five different categories like Petroleum products, Engineering goods, Gems and jewellery, Agricultural products and Textiles. Moreover, the table chart shows the percentage had been changed by each category of exports in 2016 compared with 2015.
Overall, the proportion of Petroleum products, Engineering goods and Textiles was increased significantly in 2016 as compared to 2015, despite Gems and jewellery had been declined and Agricultural products was relatively similar.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You cover both the chart and the table, and your overview identifies the main contrast: most categories rose, while gems and jewellery fell and agriculture changed little. You also report the largest percentage increase for textiles and include several relevant figures. Some details, however, are inaccurate: gems and jewellery fell from about $43 billion to about $41 billion, not $39 billion, and agriculture rose from about $31 billion to $31.5 billion rather than $32 billion. The overview’s description of petroleum and engineered goods as increasing “significantly” is also too broad, especially for petroleum. To strengthen the response, report the key comparisons more precisely and distinguish the highest export value (petroleum) from the largest percentage rise (textiles).
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs grouping the figures. This makes the main information easy to locate, and linking expressions such as “In contrast” and “Furthermore” help signal comparisons. The progression is not always smooth, however. The final paragraph moves from agriculture to textiles without a clear comparison, while some links join ideas awkwardly, as in “In 2015… $43 billions…, it been reduced…”. Repeated use of “In addition” and “Furthermore” also makes cohesion somewhat mechanical. For a stronger progression, group the categories by trend or magnitude and use clearer sentence boundaries and references when comparing the two years.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a suitable range of task-related vocabulary, including “constituted,” “surged,” “declined,” and “percentage,” and the category names are generally clear. There are also attempts at more formal reporting language, which supports the task. However, several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unnatural: “the percentage had been changed,” “values rosed,” “declined at 5.18%,” and “the highest export earnings from Textile” do not express the intended relationships precisely. “Proportion” is also not the best term for monetary export values. These choices do not prevent the reader from understanding the main message, but more natural collocations such as “export value,” “rose by,” and “fell by” would improve precision and control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, including comparisons with “whereas” and “despite,” but control is inconsistent. Errors include “one one country’s,” “despite Gems and jewellery had been declined,” and “it been reduced,” where sentence structure and verb forms are faulty. There are also problems with articles, agreement, and number patterns, such as “Petroleum product constituted at $60 billions” and “the proportion … was slightly rose.” These errors sometimes make relationships between figures harder to follow. Work on forming accurate past-tense comparisons, for example, “the value rose from $60 billion to $63 billion,” and check that each clause has a complete subject and verb. More accurate complex sentences would improve clarity.
