Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main categories and give an overview that petroleum and engineered goods earned the most, while textiles had the largest percentage increase. You also report several relevant figures, including petroleum at about $61 billion and textiles’ 15.24% rise. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: engineered goods are about $57 billion in 2015 and $62 billion in 2016, not $55 billion and $63 billion; petroleum rises by 3%, not 2%; and gems fall from about $43 billion to $41 billion, rather than dropping by $5 billion. The overview also misses the decline in gems and the broadly stable agricultural earnings. Select the key trends more accurately and compare the categories explicitly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two detail paragraphs. This gives the reader a basic route through the information, and phrases such as “To begin with” and “On the other hand” attempt to signal relationships. However, progression within the detail paragraphs is uneven, and some links do not clearly connect the ideas. For example, “Followed by engineered good” is an incomplete transition, while “the category was noticed, like gems and jewellery” makes the comparison difficult to follow. The final paragraph shifts to percentage changes but ends with the vague phrase “the rest of the category.” Grouping the main increases together and clearly contrasting the one decline would make the organisation more coherent.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You attempt a range of task-related vocabulary, including “depicts,” “accounted for,” “inclined,” and “percentage,” and the reader can generally identify the categories being discussed. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “export earning,” “proportion changes,” “was showned,” and “at peak.” Spelling errors, including “petrolem,” “agricular,” and “ans,” also reduce precision. Some expressions obscure the intended meaning—for instance, “the category was noticed” does not clearly describe a data value. Use standard chart language consistently, such as “export earnings,” “percentage change,” “rose,” “fell,” and “remained stable,” and check spelling and word forms carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You use both simple statements and attempts at longer, linked sentences, but control is inconsistent. Errors in agreement and verb forms appear in examples such as “the largest figures was recorded,” “which consists of 15.24%,” and “it was surged at 63 billion dollars.” Sentence construction is also faulty in “Followed by engineered good was $55 billions,” and the phrase “lastly, the similarity of both years” is not a complete sentence. Punctuation and capitalisation are inconsistent, particularly after “lastly” and at the start of the final paragraph. These problems sometimes make relationships between figures hard to understand. Practise complete subject–verb sentences and accurate past-tense reporting, then proofread agreement, articles, plurals, and punctuation.
