Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the chart’s subject and give a basic overview that petroleum products were highest and textiles lowest, which captures the broad ranking. However, several key figures are inaccurate: petroleum is about $61 billion in 2015 and $63 billion in 2016, not $60 billion and $36 billion; engineered goods were about $57 billion in 2015, not $48 billion. The textiles sentence is incomplete because it gives no 2015 value, and the overview does not mention the notable rise in textiles or the fall in gems and jewellery. You report most table trends, but “dramatically decline” overstates the relatively modest 5.18% decrease. More accurate figures and a fuller overview of the main changes would make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction and overview are followed by chart details and then table information. This gives the reader some organisation, and phrases such as “Overall” and “According to table” signal the purpose of sections. However, progression within the body is uneven. The second paragraph moves between categories in a way that makes comparisons difficult, and the textiles sentence is unfinished, leaving its comparison unclear. Some linking words are used inaccurately or mechanically, as in “Whereas in engineered goods” and “Final over the period.” Grouping the categories more clearly—for example, increases together and the decline separately—and using complete, direct comparisons would improve the flow and cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “export earnings,” “accounted for,” “percentage change,” and “increased marginally,” so the topic is generally clear. There is also some attempt to vary descriptions of change. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “the proportion was gems and jewellery higher than that Agriculture products” and “dramatically decline stood at.” Spelling errors including “dollers,” “Agricluture,” “slighty,” and “drametically” are noticeable and reduce precision. Choose standard terms such as “value” or “figure” for the amounts, and use consistent collocations such as “rose by” or “fell by.” This would make the data descriptions clearer and more natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast introduced by “while” and a comparison beginning “Whereas.” However, complex structures are often incomplete or faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make some details difficult to follow. For example, “Overall, it can be clearly seen that the highest export earning in petroleum products” lacks a complete clause, while “the percentage change … compares with 2015” has an unclear subject and verb relationship. The textiles sentence, “the figure was 2016 in 31 billion,” is also grammatically unclear. Work on complete clauses, subject–verb agreement, articles, and accurate past-tense reporting. Shorter, well-formed comparisons would help establish control before adding more complex sentences.
