Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the main categories and attempt an overview, noting that petroleum and engineered goods are the largest earners and that textiles grew. However, the overview is difficult to interpret and does not clearly summarise the key pattern: most categories rose, while gems and jewellery fell. Several figures are inaccurate: for example, gems are reported as falling from 42 to 37 billion, whereas the chart shows approximately 43 to 41 billion; textiles are given as 20 to 26 billion rather than about 26 to 31.5 billion. The agricultural figures are also understated. The response therefore covers the task only partially, with limited and sometimes unclear reporting. Select the most important comparisons and check each figure against the chart.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The labels “BODY 1” and “BODY2” suggest an attempt to group the information, and the response does separate the first two categories from the remaining three. However, ideas are not arranged into a clear progression: the opening combines an overview with several unclear claims, the body sections are mostly lists, and the final sentence repeats that the chart shows export earnings without adding a conclusion. Connections between comparisons are also weak, so it is hard to see how the categories relate to one another. Use a clear introduction, a concise overview, and two logically grouped detail paragraphs. Link comparisons with simple, accurate phrases such as “by contrast” and “while,” rather than relying on disconnected statements.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses some relevant task vocabulary, including “export revenue,” “largest,” “growth,” “decrease,” and “stable,” showing an attempt to describe trends and comparisons. However, the range is limited and several word choices or spellings make the meaning difficult to follow, such as “bar chat,” “catogories,” “great ratio,” and “well ewxport earning.” “Stable” is also used for textiles even though the chart shows a substantial rise, so the vocabulary does not always describe the data accurately. Build a small set of precise terms for increases, decreases, and relative size, and check spelling and collocations before writing the final response.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

There are attempts to form longer sentences, particularly in the opening, but sentence structure is often incomplete or difficult to follow. For example, “overall petroleum products and engineered goods where by the far the largest export earning” lacks a clear grammatical connection, while “textile show the most significant growth” has a subject–verb agreement error. Tense and sentence boundaries are also inconsistent, and many figures appear as fragments rather than complete sentences. These frequent errors sometimes make the intended comparisons unclear. Practise writing complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, such as “Textile earnings rose from about $26 billion to $31.5 billion,” and use full stops to separate each comparison.
