Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The bar chart illustrates the export earnings in five categories at one country on 2015 and 2016, measured in $billions. The table depicts the percentages change in the values on five categories from 2015 to 2016.
Overall, earnings are more in 2016 compared to 2015 expect gems and jewellery. The highest proportion in earnings was from petroleum products followed by engineered goods. While the lowest is from textiles, but the percentage change in value from textile was increased compared to previous year.
Looking at the detail, the petroleum product was the higheest value in the figure and had earnings more than 60 $billion in 2015 ans 2016. The engineered goods accounted for 56 $billions in 2015 and more than 60 $billions in 2016. In contranst, gems and jewellery had more sales in 2015 than 2016. The agricultural products have almost similar earning in 2015 and 2016. Where textiles had greater net income in 2016 around 32 $billions than 2015 at 25 $billions.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You cover both the chart and the table, and your overview identifies the main pattern: earnings generally rose, while gems and jewellery declined. You also correctly identify petroleum products as the largest category and textiles as having the strongest percentage increase. The figures you report are broadly consistent with the visual, including the near-stability of agricultural products. This gives the response a clear, relevant account of the main features. To make the reporting more fully developed, state the key comparisons more precisely—for example, textiles rose from about $26 billion to $31.5 billion, while gems and jewellery fell from about $43 billion to $41 billion. Also clarify that textiles were the lowest category in 2015, but not in 2016, when agricultural products and textiles were approximately equal.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall progression: an introduction, an overview, details from the chart, and then percentage changes from the table. This paragraphing helps the reader distinguish the main trends from supporting figures. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “In contrast,” and “Finally” also show an effort to connect information. However, some transitions are incomplete or awkward, particularly “Where textiles had greater net income…” and “Meanwhile, the percentage change in all five domains…”. The overview’s “While the lowest is from textiles” also leaves the comparison unclear. For stronger cohesion, make each sentence a complete, logically connected statement and use references such as “this category” only when their meaning is unmistakable.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant task vocabulary, including “export earnings,” “percentage change,” “declined,” and “highest change,” so the reader can follow the subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are noticeably inaccurate. “At one country” and “the percentages change” are not natural ways to describe the chart, while “sales” and “net income” do not precisely describe export values. There are also spelling errors, including “higheest,” “contranst,” and “ans,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, repeated chart language rather than switching to terms with different meanings: for example, use “export value” consistently and describe figures as “stood at,” “rose to,” or “fell to.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt some complex sentence forms, including the contrast in “While the lowest is from textiles, but the percentage change…” and the comparison beginning “Where textiles had greater net income…”. However, these constructions are often incomplete or incorrectly joined, and many sentences contain errors in agreement, articles, or tense. Examples include “on 2015 and 2016,” “the petroleum product was the higheest value,” and “the textiles has the highest change.” The final paragraph also begins with the fragment “Meanwhile, the percentage change in all five domains…”. These errors sometimes make relationships between ideas harder to follow. Practise complete subject–verb sentences and use consistent past-tense reporting, such as “Textile earnings rose…” and “The percentage change was highest for textiles.”
