Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the chart’s subject and include several relevant figures, including petroleum exports at about $61 billion and $63 billion and the percentage changes for all five categories. However, the overview is not fully accurate: textiles were not the least-exported category in both years, since gems and jewellery were lower in 2016, and the response does not clearly summarise the main overall pattern that most categories rose while gems declined. The figures for agricultural products and textiles are also combined as if both were $31 billion in 2016, although textiles reached about $31.5 billion. Some comparisons are therefore incomplete or unclear. A more precise overview and clearer reporting of the two years’ values would make the response more fully address the task.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph describing values, and a final paragraph covering percentage changes. This gives the reader a basic route through the information. However, progression is weakened by the shift from category values to percentage changes without a clear organising principle, and some linking phrases are mechanical or imprecise. For example, “On the other hand” does not express a contrast between the preceding figures and the percentage data, while “At the last” is an awkward transition. The sentence about agricultural products and textiles also groups two categories without distinguishing their figures. Grouping increases together and treating the decline separately, with clearer references to each year, would improve cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant task vocabulary such as “exports,” “percentage,” “increased,” and “decreased,” and the reader can generally understand the categories and trends. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are noticeably inaccurate: “most exported,” “least exports,” “worth … were exported,” and “increase 8.5% increase” do not express the data naturally. “Products include five different categories” is also imprecise, and “textile industries” adds an unsupported idea. Aim for standard chart language such as “earned,” “accounted for,” “rose by,” and “recorded the lowest value.” More accurate phrasing would make comparisons clearer and reduce repetition of “exported” and “increase.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple and more extended sentences, and the main message is usually recoverable. However, frequent errors in agreement, articles, sentence construction, and punctuation limit accuracy. The opening has “bar graph illustrate,” where the singular subject requires “illustrates,” and “in several” is incomplete because the noun is missing. In “there was increase 8.5 % increase,” the sentence structure and article use are faulty; “Agricultural products's” also uses an incorrect possessive form. The sentence “Agricultural products and textile products were exported for 31 billion dollars in 2016” is grammatically possible but unclear in meaning because it combines two categories. Practise accurate comparative structures and check subject–verb agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries.
