Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The bar chart and table illustrate the value of a nations exports in various categories from 2015 to 2016 and along with the percentage change from 2015 to 2016.

Overall, it can be seen that, the export earning of petroleum products were the highest, whereas textiles were lowest in both years and product performance showed the textiles was largest and agricultural products were lowest

Nontheless, textiles were considerably lower at 26$ billions and 30$ billions . Finally, agricultural products were stable at 30$ billions .

Turning to the next table, the percentage of textiles had highest at 15.24%, which was the largest proportion in the table. Followed this, engineered goods had risen at 8.5%, whereas petroleum products and agricultural products grew by 3% and 0.81% respectively. gems and jewellery decreased 5.18%.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You cover both the chart and the table, and identify several key patterns: petroleum products earned the most, textiles had the strongest percentage growth, and gems and jewellery declined. However, the overview is unclear and internally contradictory: it says textiles were lowest, then describes textiles as having the largest performance, while agricultural products had the smallest change. Some figures also need closer checking. Petroleum earnings are reported as about $62 billion in both years, but the chart shows approximately $61 billion and $63 billion; agricultural products rose slightly rather than remaining fully stable. The main comparisons are relevant, but the overview and a few details are not sufficiently precise. State the overall trends clearly, then support them with accurate figures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph describing export values, and a final paragraph on percentage changes. This gives the reader a coherent overall route through the information, and phrases such as “Turning to the next table” signal a shift in focus. However, progression is weakened by the contradictory overview and by some awkward or unclear links, including “As seen as” and “Followed this.” The chart paragraph also moves between categories without consistently highlighting the most useful comparisons. To strengthen the organisation, group the highest-earning categories together and the lower or changing categories together, and use clear linking phrases that show contrast or increase without interrupting the flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use a suitable range of task vocabulary, including “export earnings,” “percentage change,” “increased,” “stable,” and “decreased,” so the main information is generally understandable. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “considerably lower.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural: “product performance showed the textiles was largest” does not clearly express the trend, and “the percentage of textiles had highest” is not an appropriate way to describe its growth rate. “Export earning” is also less natural than the plural form in this context. Aim for precise chart language such as “recorded the largest increase” and “accounted for the highest earnings,” and check spelling and capitalisation, including “Nonetheless” and “Gems.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including comparisons with “whereas” and a participial opening such as “Turning to the next table.” However, grammatical control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. For example, “the export earning of petroleum products were the highest” has problems with number agreement, while “the textiles was largest” has an incorrect subject–verb pattern. Several sentences also lack clear punctuation or sentence boundaries, as in “in 2015 and 2016.second highest,” and the opening sentence contains an unnecessary “and along with.” Work on subject–verb agreement, articles, and complete sentence construction. Proofread punctuation and use a consistent past-tense pattern when reporting the figures.
