Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the chart and table and include several relevant comparisons, such as the rise in textiles and the decline in gems and jewellery. However, the overview is incomplete: it says petroleum and engineered goods were rising and textiles rose dramatically, but does not summarise the overall pattern across all five categories. Some figures and descriptions are inaccurate or unclear. For example, petroleum rises from about $61 billion to $63 billion, not from $60 billion, and engineered goods reach about $62 billion rather than $61 billion. The statement that three categories fluctuated between 27 and 42% is not supported by the chart; these are export values in billions, not percentages. Select the main trends accurately and report the units clearly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to chart details and then percentage changes. This gives the reader some sense of organisation. However, progression within the body paragraphs is difficult to follow, particularly in the sentence beginning “The figure fluctuation over the billions in three categories,” where several categories and trends are compressed together. Linking phrases such as “Moreover,” “On the other hand,” and “In addition” are used, but some do not express a clear relationship between the points. Group the categories by trend, use one clear comparison per sentence, and connect the chart values to the table changes consistently. This would make the organisation more logical and reduce repetition.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “percentage change,” “exports,” “dramatically,” and “decline,” and you attempt to describe increases and decreases. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning unclear. Phrases such as “the figure fluctuation over the billions,” “the ratio of change,” and “the most dramatically raising” are not natural ways to describe the data. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “slighlty,” “jewelley,” “flctuation,” and “Texiles.” Use precise chart language such as “export value,” “increased,” “fell,” and “recorded the largest percentage rise,” and check spelling of category names carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast introduced by “Whereas” and a sentence beginning “It is noticeable that.” However, many sentences contain errors in verb forms, sentence structure, articles, or agreement, which sometimes make the intended comparison difficult to understand. For example, “the Petroleum products were slighlty rise” should use a simple past form such as “rose slightly,” while “in 2016 it go up” needs “it went up.” The opening “Whereas” clause is also left as a fragment, and “the all item was growing” has incorrect article and agreement. Practise forming complete sentences with consistent past-tense verbs and check subject–verb agreement and plural forms.
