Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the chart and table and give a broad overview: petroleum products are the highest-earning category, while textiles show the largest percentage rise and gems and jewellery decline. These are relevant main features. However, the report is incomplete and only partially covers the data: it stops midway through the 2016 comparison, gives almost no figures for that year, and does not report the changes for most categories. The claim that textiles were the lowest-earning category is true for 2015 but not 2016, when agricultural products and textiles were approximately equal. The response is also 20 words below the required minimum. To develop the task more fully, complete the comparisons and support the overview with accurate figures from both years.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a basic structure, with an opening description, an overview, and a paragraph beginning the detailed comparison. This helps the reader recognise the intended organisation. However, progression is limited because the response ends during the sentence about 2016, leaving the comparison unfinished and the categories without a clear sequence of discussion. Linking is also awkward in places: “Overall” introduces the overview, but “whereas” and “on the other hand” are crowded together without clearly separating the contrasting points. Organise the details into a complete comparison, for example grouping the highest earners first and then the lower categories, and use linking expressions only where they clarify the relationship between ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The response uses some task-relevant vocabulary, including “export earnings,” “percentage,” “categories,” and “in sharp contrast,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, word choice and spelling are often inaccurate or repetitive, as in “the alter in percentage,” “the earing,” and “catogegories.” Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “the percentage of Textiles was on peak” and “gems and jewellery was decline.” These errors reduce precision, especially when describing changes in the table. Aim for standard chart language and check spelling carefully; phrases such as “percentage change,” “reached the highest level,” and “declined” would express the intended meanings more naturally and accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, including a contrast between the two years. However, control is inconsistent, and several sentence patterns contain errors that make the information harder to follow. For example, “the petroleum products export earnings was highest” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “the earning of the other categories decrease” uses an incorrect verb form. The opening sentence also joins clauses awkwardly with “while,” and the final sentence is incomplete (“nearly 62$ b”). Use complete sentences, check singular and plural agreement, and keep past-tense reporting consistent. Clearer sentence boundaries and accurate verb forms would make the comparisons easier to understand.
