Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You identify the main overall patterns: petroleum products are the largest export category in both years, textiles have the greatest percentage increase, and agricultural products the smallest. You also report all five categories and include the table’s percentage changes, so the response covers the task well. Most chart figures are close to the visual data, though the values are expressed as percentages rather than dollars, and the overview could more clearly note that gems and jewellery was the only category to decline while textiles rose notably. This shows a solid account with some key features selected, but not all comparisons are fully precise or developed. Use the chart’s units and make the contrasting trends explicit.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph describing the chart, and a final paragraph covering the table. This makes the information easy to locate. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, with repeated openings such as “the value of one country export earnings” and frequent connectors including “However,” “Furthermore,” and “As well as.” Some transitions do not express the relationship accurately; for example, “At least but not last” introduces agricultural products awkwardly. Grouping the increases together and then contrasting them with the decline would create a more natural sequence. The paragraphing is useful, but clearer referencing and less repetitive linking would make cohesion more effective.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant task vocabulary, including “export earnings,” “percentage change,” “petroleum products,” and “gems and jewellery,” and the reader can generally understand the comparisons. However, the range is limited by repeated phrases such as “value of one country export earnings,” and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate: “the table elucidate,” “proportion change,” and “aboving 0.81%.” The repeated use of “almost” and “near to” also reduces precision, while “60%” incorrectly labels a dollar value as a percentage. Aim for concise, conventional chart language such as “export revenue,” “rose by,” and “stood at.” More accurate collocations and varied reporting verbs would improve clarity and control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, and the response is divided into paragraphs that communicate the main comparisons. However, grammatical control is uneven, particularly in subject–verb agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “The bar graph illustrate” should be “The bar graph illustrates,” while “petroleum products increasing 3%” needs a finite verb, such as “increased by 3%.” The opening sentence also contains an incomplete or misplaced structure (“during in different years”), and several clauses omit necessary articles or prepositions. These errors sometimes make the reader pause, although the intended meaning is usually recoverable. Practise accurate comparative sentence patterns and check each sentence for a clear subject and verb.
