Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main patterns accurately: petroleum products earn the most, textiles show the strongest growth, and gems and jewellery are the only category to decline. You also include figures for all five categories and report the percentage changes, so the response covers the task well. This is consistent with a strong response that meets the core requirements and shows some higher-level selection of key features. However, a few figures are imprecise: agricultural products rise only from about $31 billion to $31.5 billion, not $32 billion, and gems fall to about $41 billion, rather than $40 billion. The overview could also compare the categories more clearly, and the final sentence confusingly says both gems and petroleum increased by 3%, although gems declined by 5.18%.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and two detail paragraphs. The main comparisons are generally easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “Overall,” “In contrast,” and “while” help signal relationships. However, the progression is somewhat mechanical, with “Firstly” and “Lastly” used to organise information that could be grouped more logically. Some connections are unclear: the final sentence combines the percentage changes for several categories and incorrectly associates gems with an increase. Repetition of the same comparisons in the overview and detail paragraph also limits progression. Grouping the increases together and then contrasting them with the decline would make the information flow more smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant task vocabulary, including “export earnings,” “percentage changes,” “growth,” and “decreased,” and the meaning is generally understandable. There is some variety in how you describe comparisons, but several word-choice and spelling problems reduce precision: “had a slightly growth” is not a natural collocation, and “the last chart” is inaccurate because the visual is a table. Misspellings such as “pretoleum,” “texties,” “jewellry,” and “incease” are noticeable, while “goods” is repeated where more specific category names would be clearer. To strengthen this area, check spelling carefully and use accurate, natural phrases for rises, falls, and percentage changes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including clauses linked with “while” and “in contrast,” and the overall meaning can usually be followed. However, some grammatical errors recur. For example, “the only one who had a decreased” has an incorrect noun phrase and relative pronoun, while “textiles having the most growth” is a fragment rather than a complete sentence. There are also problems with articles and agreement in “had the least change” and “gems and jewellery are the only one.” Several long sentences join multiple comparisons without clear punctuation, making relationships harder to track. Aim to write complete sentences with consistent past-tense verbs, and separate distinct comparisons with full stops.
