Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the chart’s subject and mention several relevant categories, including the decline in gems and jewellery and the rise in textiles. However, the summary only partially reports the main features, and some statements misread the data. Textiles did not “become less in sale”: earnings rose from about $26 billion to $31.5 billion, the largest percentage increase. Petroleum and engineered goods reached about $63 billion and $62 billion respectively, rather than the stated 60 and 61. The overview also says values were “rapidly high” without clearly identifying the leading categories or the contrasting trends. To strengthen the response, give a precise overview and compare the main increases, the one decline, and the broadly stable agricultural figure using accurate values.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some organisation: an opening statement is followed by an overview and then a paragraph with examples. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the overview is vague and the final paragraph shifts between categories without a clear comparison. For instance, “To, conclude” introduces another summary, while “On the other hand” is used for ideas that do not form a clear contrast. Several points are repeated, such as the decline in gems and jewellery. Use a more purposeful sequence: introduce the chart, summarise the main trends, then group the detailed comparisons logically. Clear paragraphing and accurate linking would make the relationships between figures easier to understand.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some relevant topic vocabulary, including “export earnings,” “categories,” and “percentage,” so the reader can recognise the subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes obscuring the intended trend. “Change of prices” is not an appropriate description of export values, and “less in sale” does not clearly express that textile earnings increased. Phrases such as “rapidly high” and “high demand” are also imprecise for describing chart figures. Aim for accurate reporting language such as “rose,” “fell,” “remained stable,” and “recorded the highest earnings,” and check spelling and word forms such as “compared” and “decreased.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including clauses introduced by “while” and “as compared to,” but control is inconsistent. Errors in agreement and verb forms appear in “the values … is,” “gems and jewellery prices become decrease,” and “were rapidly increases.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also frequently faulty: there is no space after several full stops, and “To, conclude” is punctuated incorrectly. These problems can make comparisons hard to interpret. Practise forming accurate past-tense statements, for example, “Textile earnings increased,” and ensure subjects agree with verbs. Use full stops and commas to separate complete ideas, and build longer sentences only when their grammatical structure is secure.
