Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You identify the main overall pattern: petroleum products earned the most, textiles had the largest percentage rise, and gems and jewellery declined. The figures you give for petroleum and engineered goods are consistent with the chart, and you correctly note that agricultural exports changed very little. This covers the task, but some comparisons are incomplete or unclear. In particular, the overview says agriculture and textiles had equivalent figures and were the lowest, although textiles rose to about $31.5 billion and agriculture was also about $31.5 billion in 2016; neither was the lowest in 2015, when textiles were lowest. The claim that gems fell “significantly” is also overstated. To strengthen the response, report the approximate values for the declining category and make the overview’s comparisons precise.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph describing chart values, and a final paragraph summarising percentage changes. This gives the reader a generally coherent route through the information, and phrases such as “Overall” and “while” help signal comparison. However, the progression is not consistently clear. The second paragraph combines several categories without a systematic comparison, and “all the categories showing an upward trend” is followed by the exception, making the point awkward to process. The final paragraph repeats the textiles and agriculture trends rather than connecting them to the earlier figures. Grouping the categories by direction of change, then comparing their values and percentages, would make the organisation more logical and cohesive.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “declined,” “earning,” “percentage,” and “change,” and the reader can generally understand the comparisons. There are also attempts at more descriptive language, such as “massive change” and “slightest change.” However, some choices are imprecise or unnatural for a data report: “attracted the highest earning” and “biggest changing percentage” do not express the intended comparisons idiomatically, while “significantly” overstates the relatively small fall in gems and jewellery. Spelling errors such as “attarcted” and “i n” also reduce accuracy. Prefer neutral, precise reporting language and check spelling; for example, describe textiles as having the largest percentage increase rather than a “massive change.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast with “whereas” and a subordinate clause beginning “Although.” The main information is usually understandable, but some grammatical errors recur and occasionally make relationships unclear. For example, “the bar chart is providing” uses an unsuitable tense, and “all the categories showing” lacks a finite verb. There are agreement and article problems in “the agricultural products and textiles are showing equivalent figure and is lowest,” as well as errors in “agricultural products doesnt showed much change.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also inconsistent, particularly in the long second paragraph. Use the present simple to describe the chart, check subject–verb agreement, and revise each sentence for a complete clause and clear punctuation.
