Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main categories and include an overview, noting petroleum as the leading earner, textiles as the fastest-growing category, and agricultural exports as broadly stable. You also report several relevant figures. However, some details are inaccurate: petroleum rose from about $61 billion to $63 billion, not to a figure described as a 62% increase; engineered goods rose from about $57 billion to $62 billion; and textiles increased from about $26 billion to $31.5 billion. The overview also calls textiles the lowest earner across both years, although it was the lowest only in 2015 and tied with agriculture in 2016. The table’s changes are mostly identified, but the comparison of the two charts needs clearer, more accurate reporting.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph on export values, and a final paragraph on percentage changes. This gives the reader some organisation. However, progression within paragraphs is often difficult to follow, and several ideas are joined awkwardly: “Overall it is clear that, the highest earning category…” and “While agricultural products are both year remind stable” do not form clear relationships. Linking words such as “In contrast,” “While,” and “Finally” are repeated or used where the contrast is unclear. Grouping the main increases together, then discussing the decline and stable categories, would create a clearer progression. Use punctuation and sentence boundaries to make each comparison easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “exports,” “percentage change,” “declined,” and “stable,” and you attempt to compare categories rather than simply list figures. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning unclear. For example, “the second highest accounted for gems” does not clearly describe the ranking, while “lowest proportion of value” is not a natural way to describe the smallest percentage change. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “bart,” “tectiles,” and “ia.” Aim for precise chart language such as “export earnings,” “recorded a rise,” and “the smallest increase.” Check spelling and use category names consistently.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including comparisons with “while” and “in contrast,” but many sentences contain errors in sentence structure, verb forms, articles, and punctuation. For example, “the highest earning category is petroleum products and followed by engineered goods” has an incomplete construction, and “textiles is the least income” has faulty agreement and structure. The phrase “Agricultural products both year almost similar” also lacks a clear verb and grammatical connection. Commas are frequently attached to words without spaces, and several sentences run together. Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, for example: “Petroleum earnings rose from $61 billion to $63 billion.”
