Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the five export categories and report several relevant changes, including the rise in textiles and the fall in gems and jewellery. However, the overview is unclear and includes inaccurate comparisons: petroleum and engineered goods did not have “same result,” and textiles rose rather than showing only “slight growth.” The description of agricultural products and textiles as falling from 30 to over 20 and then remaining unchanged is incorrect; both increased, with textiles rising notably from about $26 billion to $31.5 billion. Some percentages are also presented without clearly stating the direction of change. To strengthen the response, give a concise overview of the main contrasts, then report the values and trends accurately and consistently.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has some organisation: it begins with an introduction, moves to chart details, and then discusses the table. This gives the reader a basic sense of the task’s two sources. However, there is no clear overall progression, and the overview is mixed with details rather than clearly separated. Linking words such as “Similarly,” “Although,” “Moreover,” and “Finally” are used, but some do not express the relationship accurately; for example, “Although” introduces a contrast without a complete contrasting structure. The repeated “in a year” phrasing also makes the report feel repetitive. Use distinct paragraphs for the overview, chart comparisons, and table, and connect each point with precise, simple transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “export,” “percentage change,” “petroleum products,” and “gems and jewellery,” so the subject is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning unclear. “Product earning” and “the table always shows” are not natural ways to describe the visuals, while “rapid growth” is not suitable for the small rise in petroleum exports. The repeated use of “industry” also does not accurately describe every category. Aim for precise reporting verbs and nouns such as “export earnings,” “rose,” “declined,” and “remained stable,” and distinguish a value in dollars from a percentage change.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses beginning with “while” and “Although.” However, errors are frequent and sometimes make the intended comparison difficult to follow. Verb forms and agreement are often inaccurate, as in “petroleum goods have been 60 billion” and “textiles industry have been earned.” Articles and sentence openings are also problematic, for example “looked at the chart,” while several clauses are joined or punctuated incorrectly, such as “Although, earning in gems…” and “while, engineered goods…”. Practise forming clear past-tense reporting sentences: “Petroleum exports stood at about $61 billion in 2015 and rose to $63 billion in 2016.” Then check subject–verb agreement and punctuation.
