Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You cover all five export categories and report the direction of change for each, including the fall in gems and jewellery and the strong rise in textiles. However, several figures conflict substantially with the chart: petroleum is about $61 billion in 2015 and $63 billion in 2016, not $51 billion and $54 billion; engineered goods are about $57 billion and $62 billion, not $56 billion and $64 billion. The response also lacks a clear overview identifying the main pattern, such as textiles having the largest percentage increase while gems and jewellery was the only category to decline. These inaccuracies and the limited synthesis mean the key features are only partially conveyed. Check values carefully and add a concise overview before the details.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response is divided into category-based paragraphs, so readers can generally identify which figures belong to petroleum, engineered goods, gems, agriculture and textiles. It also follows the chart’s categories in a sensible order. However, there is no introductory overview paragraph to establish the main trends, and the repeated pattern of “In the…” followed by a description makes the progression mechanical rather than clearly synthesised. Some links are awkward or unclear, particularly “when proportionated to below in 2016,” which interrupts the comparison. Use an overview to group the increases and the single decline, then organise details with clear comparisons and accurate linking phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of task-related vocabulary, including “slight increase,” “appreciably,” “downfall,” and “remarkable increase,” and the reader can usually understand the intended trends. However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural in this context: “variety of goods been exported,” “change in rate of percentage,” and “grassline increase” do not express the data clearly. “Ranked” is also unsuitable for describing export values, while “downfall” is less appropriate than a neutral term for a decrease. Aim for precise chart language and natural collocations, such as “export earnings,” “rose by,” “fell to,” and “percentage change.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

Most of the response uses simple sentence patterns, with limited evidence of controlled complex structures. Frequent errors in sentence formation and grammar sometimes make comparisons difficult to follow. For example, “goods been exported” is missing a suitable verb form, and “their is” appears where “there is” is required. The construction “increased appreciably by 8.5 percentage in 2016 than in 2015” has problems with comparison and preposition patterns, while “which stood 42 billion dollars in 2015” needs a clearer grammatical link and an appropriate preposition. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and comparison structures, and use full stops to separate complete ideas.
