Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the chart’s subject and report several relevant figures, including petroleum earnings rising from about $61 billion to $63 billion and the decline in gems and jewellery. You also note that textiles had the largest percentage increase. However, the overview is unclear and partly inaccurate: “all product value increased” conflicts with the fall in gems and jewellery, and the conclusion that some categories were simply “higher” or “low” does not summarise the main pattern. Several figures are misreported, such as agricultural products at about $32 billion rather than $31.5 billion, and the percentage changes are sometimes confused with export values. A clearer overview and more accurate comparisons would make the response more complete and better supported.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response follows a basic sequence, moving from an introduction to category-by-category details and then a conclusion. Some comparisons are signalled with words such as “whereas” and “on the contrary,” so the reader can sometimes follow the intended contrasts. However, nearly all the information is placed in one long, run-on paragraph, with little clear progression or separation between categories. Connectors are also used mechanically or inaccurately: “on the contrary” does not fit the petroleum comparison, and “butt” introduces the final contrast awkwardly. Group the information into an introduction, a concise overview, and two detail paragraphs, and use linking phrases only where they express the relationship accurately.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-related vocabulary, including “exports,” “categories,” “increase,” “decrease,” and “value,” which helps communicate the general subject. However, the range is limited and several expressions are repeated or imprecise, such as “the value … increase the value” and “the chart under.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “petrroleum,” “engineered,” “jems,” “texttiles,” and “conclution,” which reduce clarity. Some word choices confuse units and measures: “63% billions” suggests a percentage rather than a value in billions. Use accurate terms such as “export earnings,” “rose to,” and “percentage change,” and check spelling and collocations before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts to compare figures using clauses with “whereas,” and it includes both simple statements and some longer sentence attempts. However, sentence structures are often incomplete or run together, as in “the chart under petrroleum products in 2015 61billions whereas on the contrary 2016 increase the value 3%.” Missing verbs and articles, unclear tense forms, and weak punctuation make several relationships difficult to understand. The repeated pattern “the [category] value in 2015…” also limits grammatical variety. Practise writing complete sentences with a clear subject and verb—for example, “Petroleum exports were worth about $61 billion in 2015, rising to $63 billion in 2016”—and use full stops to separate each comparison.
