Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response identifies several relevant categories and includes some figures, such as petroleum at about 60 billion dollars and textiles rising from roughly 25 to 33 billion. However, it does not provide a clear overview of the main trends, and some information is inaccurate or confused: gems and jewellery fell from about 43 to 41 billion, but the response gives only a percentage figure and misstates it as 5.8%; petroleum rose only slightly, not “dramatically.” The comparison that agricultural exports were higher than textiles is also incorrect for 2015 and approximately equal in 2016. The Dubai and food comments are irrelevant to summarising the visual. The response is 143 words, below the 150-word minimum; the eight words copied from the prompt were not counted. Select the key trends and report them accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is some basic sequencing through references to 2015 and 2016, and contrast markers such as “However” and “On the other hand” show an attempt to connect ideas. Nevertheless, the response has no clear paragraph structure or overview, and it moves abruptly between categories. The long aside about Dubai and gold interrupts the comparison of export figures, while “All we know that every country needs agricultural products for food” shifts away from the task. Some links are also unclear, particularly “in 2015 to 2016 in export value of jewellery and gems was 5.8%.” Organise the report into an introduction, an overview, and focused detail paragraphs, grouping the main increases and the decline. Use linking phrases only where they express a clear relationship.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses a small range of task-related vocabulary, including “export value,” “percentage change,” and category names such as “agricultural products” and “gems and jewellery.” This is enough to communicate the general subject, but vocabulary is limited and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors make the report less clear or less formal. Examples include “percantage,” “earings,” “petrol” where the chart labels “petroleum products,” and “dram(et)ically” for a small increase. Phrases such as “little bit high” and “there is lot of gold” are conversational rather than suitable for an academic report. Use precise terms such as “rose slightly,” “declined,” and “export earnings,” and check spelling and collocations before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and longer sentence forms, including a contrast introduced by “However” and a relative clause beginning “which we know.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors in verb forms, sentence construction, articles, and punctuation frequently affect readability. For example, “the export of petrol was increase” uses an incorrect verb form, while “its increase to 33billions dollar” lacks the correct tense and number agreement. The sentence beginning “On the other hand the export of gems…” becomes difficult to follow because several ideas are joined without clear grammatical structure. Full stops and spaces after punctuation are also often missing. Practise accurate past-tense reporting (“rose,” “fell,” “was valued at”) and build shorter, complete sentences before attempting longer comparisons.
