Student answer (Band 5.5)
Many individuals believe that major environmental problem of our time is the loss of different types of plants and animals while, other think there are more important environmental problem than it. I firmly agree with people those think that it is due species loss, but others are also right.
To begin with, Plants are essential for our environment. It keeps our environment clean and also gives us fresh air and oxygen in the daytime and carbon dioxide at night. Loss of plants leads our environment towards environmental problems such as flood, sanitary problems and also increase diseases among people. For example, some people in our country cut trees for money or other use tree wood to make furniture. It affects our atmosphere because tree are very useful, it reduces the possibility of flood and prevent many environmental diseasters. In addition, animals are also vital for our environment because it maintains our eco-system as well as our world's economy mainly depends on them. It plays an important role in saving our environment.
On the other hand, there are many other problem which may occur environmental problems. One of the main problem is due to pollution, it is produced by a large number of vehicles on roads. Moreover, it is also caused by public, when they through garbage on roads rather than in dustbins. Due to this many individuals become ill and it pollutes our environment as well.
In conclusion, both arguments are correct because loss of plants and animals cause sanitary problems, while other environmental problems are due to spread of pollution in our atmosphere. In my perspective, Government should take come measures to resolve our environmental problems such as planting more trees, etc.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both views and state a position: you agree that species loss is a major problem while acknowledging that other environmental issues matter. The body paragraphs also give relevant examples, including tree cutting, flooding and vehicle pollution. However, the discussion is only partly developed. The explanation of how animal loss affects the ecosystem and the economy is asserted rather than illustrated, and the pollution paragraph does not compare its scale or consequences with species loss. Your conclusion repeats the two sides but does not clearly explain why you consider species loss the main problem. To strengthen the response, develop each view with a specific cause-and-effect explanation and make your final judgement more explicit. The length requirement is met; the counted total excludes nine words copied from the task prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Phrases such as “To begin with,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the discussion. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear, and several ideas are joined in long sentences with repeated “and” or “because.” For example, the first body paragraph moves from plants’ benefits to tree cutting, flooding, animals and the economy without clearly separating or developing these points. References such as “it” and “they” can also be unclear when several possible nouns appear nearby. Organise each paragraph around one main claim, then explain and exemplify it, using linking expressions and references more precisely.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “species,” “pollution,” “eco-system,” “atmosphere” and “sanitary problems,” so the reader can follow the general subject. However, the range is limited and some word choices or combinations are inaccurate or repetitive. “Environmental problem” is repeated often, while phrases such as “other environmental problem than it” and “take come measures” are not natural or clear. There are also spelling errors, including “diseasters,” and imprecise expressions such as “our world's economy mainly depends on them.” Aim for more precise topic language and check common collocations and spelling. For instance, distinguish “biodiversity loss” from “air pollution,” and use specific terms for effects such as habitat destruction or respiratory illness.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including clauses introduced by “because,” “while” and “when.” However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to read. Examples include “major environmental problem” without an article, “other think,” and “Plants … It keeps,” where subject–verb agreement and pronoun reference are faulty. In “Loss of plants leads our environment towards environmental problems,” the sentence pattern is not controlled, and several clauses are joined without clear punctuation. Work on articles, plural subjects and verb agreement, and practise building complex sentences with one clear main clause. Proofreading for sentence boundaries and consistent subject references would also improve accuracy.
