Some people say that the main environmental problem of our time is the loss of particular species of plants and animals. Others say that there are more important environmental problems. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Biodiversity plays a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance. Also good environment is essential factor for human life and wild life creatures survival. Some people argue that deforestation and endangered animals are main problem of environment ecosystem. However, some believe that there are more important environmental problems such as global warming, greenhouse effect, air pollution, water pollution. Thus, I believe that all are serious problems of environment.
There are several factors for loss of species of plants and animals, such as soil erosion, air pollution and water pollutions. Some of the plants need special type of soil quality and clean water to grow, by soil erosion some of the trees or plants do not survive. Same for animals, they are not survived more with dirty water and poor air quality, it leads to increase endangered animals proportion. Deforestation is the main cause of wild life creatures loss of habitant, inappropriate habitant may cause animal's death.
On the other hand, there are significant problems of environment. Now a days, the main problem is global warming, due to heavy industrial activities, release large amount of emission to air is leading to global warming effect and also cause of air pollution. Global warming effect are danger for humans and animals both. Industries are release their water wastage, plastics in to rivers, thus a large amount of wastage in to water lead to water pollution. People do not get clean water for daily basic needs.
In conclusion, our plants, animals, water and air are the essential factor of good environment ecosystem. Thus, every human being needs to take care of our environment. Also individual should take part in cleaning campaign such as clean beaches, river cleaning and plantation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response discusses both views: the second paragraph explains how habitat loss and pollution threaten species, while the third identifies global warming and water pollution as broader environmental concerns. Your position is stated as “all are serious problems,” and the conclusion reinforces the need for environmental action. However, the opinion is broad rather than clearly weighing the two views, and several points are asserted without specific supporting examples. For instance, the effects of global warming on people and animals are mentioned but not explained, and the discussion of species loss focuses mainly on causes rather than why it is the main problem for some people. Develop each view with a concrete example and make your comparative judgement more explicit.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two perspectives, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “However,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” helps readers follow the discussion. The progression is generally understandable, although some links between ideas are mechanical or unclear. For example, “There are several factors for loss of species” introduces a list, but the connection between soil erosion and the decline of particular species could be explained more directly. The sentence beginning “Now a days” also combines industrial emissions, global warming, and air pollution without clearly separating their relationships. Use clearer referencing and connect each example to the point it supports, rather than relying mainly on transition phrases.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant environmental vocabulary, including “biodiversity,” “ecological balance,” “deforestation,” “global warming,” and “water pollution,” which allows you to address the topic. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “soil erosion” and “habitat loss.” However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or repetitive, and some phrases make the meaning less precise: “good environment,” “environment ecosystem,” “water wastage,” and “endangered animals proportion.” Spelling and word-form choices such as “habitant” also affect accuracy. Build a more precise set of topic collocations and check whether each noun fits its context; for example, distinguish industrial emissions from waste discharged into rivers. This would make the argument clearer and more natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response includes simple sentences and attempts at complex structures, including cause-and-effect clauses with “due to” and “thus,” as well as a contrast introduced by “On the other hand.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors occur in sentence construction, agreement, articles, and verb forms. For example, “release large amount of emission to air is leading” lacks a clear grammatical subject and has agreement and article problems; “Global warming effect are danger” also has errors in number and sentence structure. The sentence “they are not survived more” shows difficulty forming the passive construction. Practise building accurate clauses before adding extra information, and check subject–verb agreement, articles, and verb forms in each sentence.
