Student answer (Band 7.0)
No one can deny that some people believe that the main environmental problem of our time is the loss of particular species of plants and animals. While other prefer to think that more important environmental problems. It is important to admit that both views have own their benefits and detriments. In this essay, I will discuss this possible reason and what benefits to the society.
On the one hand, the loss of plants and animals species is a significant issue because biodiversity is essential for maintaining a healthy ecosystem. Every species plays a unique role in nature, and the disappearance of one can affect many others. Foe example, if bees become extinct crop production may decline because many plants depend on them for pollination. However, many medicines are developed from plants so losing rare species may reduce future medical discoveries.
On the other hand, I believe that problems such as climate change, air pollution and deforestation are even more urgent because they affect both humanss and wildlife on a much larger scale. Rising global temperature causse extreme weaather events, melting glacierss and rising sea levels, which threaten millions of people. In addition, pollution contaminates rivers, ocean and the air leading to serious health problems and damaging ecosysytem.
In conclusion, although the loss of plaants and animals is a serious environmental concern, I believe that climate change, pollution and deforestation are even more important because they have widespread effects and are the root causes of biodiversity loss. Therefore, governments and individuals should work together to address these major environmental challenges.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt. You clearly identify the two opposing views and provide a personal opinion in the conclusion. The ideas are relevant, such as the role of bees in pollination and the broader impact of climate change. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat brief. To reach a higher band, you could expand on the 'root causes' argument mentioned in the conclusion, explaining exactly how climate change drives biodiversity loss. The introduction is slightly underdeveloped, as the sentence 'While other prefer to think that more important environmental problems' is a fragment and lacks a clear verb.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs. You use standard cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'In addition' to guide the reader. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by minor grammatical errors that affect the cohesion of individual sentences. For instance, the opening paragraph contains a sentence fragment that disrupts the logical introduction of the topic. Referencing is generally clear, but the transition between the two main body paragraphs could be smoother to better highlight the contrast between the two viewpoints.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'biodiversity,' 'ecosystem,' 'pollination,' and 'extinct' appropriately. There are some spelling errors, such as 'weaather,' 'glacierss,' 'ecosysytem,' and 'plaants,' which are distracting but do not impede overall communication. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for higher bands, as some word choices remain quite basic.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional clauses ('if bees become extinct...') and relative clauses. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('own their benefits'), missing verbs ('While other prefer to think that more important environmental problems'), and pluralization errors ('humanss'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your argument, they occur frequently enough to limit the score. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and spelling would significantly improve your accuracy.
