Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both views regarding the importance of species loss versus other environmental issues. However, the development is somewhat uneven. While you provide examples like phytoplankton and pollution, the discussion of 'other' environmental problems is brief and lacks depth. Your own opinion is stated in the conclusion, but it would be more effective if it were clearly established in the introduction and consistently supported throughout the body paragraphs. To reach a higher band, ensure that both sides of the argument are explored with equal weight and that your personal stance is integrated more cohesively into the overall structure of the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To exemplify' and 'Similarly', but these are sometimes used repetitively or mechanically. The transition between the second and third paragraphs is a bit abrupt. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect your ideas more fluidly. Additionally, ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that directly relates to the prompt, as some sentences currently feel slightly disconnected from the main point of the paragraph.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'biodiversity', 'ecological', and 'urbanization'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'environmental plays an essential role' (should be 'the environment') and 'Many companies kills the animals' (subject-verb agreement). Some expressions are slightly unnatural, such as 'in today's contemporary epoch'. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and ensuring that your word forms (nouns vs. verbs) are accurate. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise academic terminology will help you achieve a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('if any plant go extinct', 'This problems are') and article usage. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some run-on sentences and missing commas. To improve, focus on proofreading your work for basic grammatical accuracy, especially ensuring that subjects and verbs agree. Attempting more complex sentence structures is good, but ensure they are grammatically sound before moving on to more advanced forms.
