Student answer (Band 7.0)
Some people believe that the greatest environmental issue today is the extinction of certain species of plants and animals, while other think that there are more serious environmental problems. First, I discuss both views then I give my own view.
On the one hand the loss of plant and animals is a major concern because biodiversity is essential for healthy ecosystem. Every species has a role in nature. For example, if bees disappear many crops could not be pollinated that's leading low food production. In addition, many plants and animals have their medical and scientific value that benefits future generation.
On the other hand, many people think that environmental issues such as climate change, air pollution, water pollution are more serious because they affect the entire plant. Rising global temperature have a Greate effect on weather events, melting glaciers and rising sea levels. Furthermore, polluted air and contaminated water harms both humans and wildlife causing millions of deaths every year.
In my opinion, protecting endanger species is extremely important but climate change and pollution should receive more attention because they are the roots of environmental problems. By reducing greenhouse gas emissions and controlling pollution the governments can improve public health while also protecting wildlife.
In conclusion I would like to say that the extinction of plants and animals is undoubtedly e serious issue. However, I believe that climate change and pollution are even more critical because they have wider and longer lasting impact on both humans and the natural environment.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views on environmental problems and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and logically developed, such as the mention of bees for pollination and the broader impact of climate change. However, the development is somewhat brief. To reach a higher band, you could expand on the 'medical and scientific value' of species or provide more specific examples of how government policies can mitigate both issues simultaneously. The position is consistent throughout the essay, which is a strength.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use basic cohesive devices like 'On the one hand', 'In addition', and 'Furthermore' effectively. However, the transitions between some sentences are slightly mechanical. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that referencing (e.g., using pronouns or synonyms to refer back to previous ideas) is more fluid to avoid repetitive sentence structures.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'biodiversity', 'pollinated', 'greenhouse gas emissions', and 'contaminated'. There are some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'Greate' instead of 'great' and 'entire plant' instead of 'entire planet'. Additionally, 'e serious issue' contains a typo. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. Focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring accurate spelling of key terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'that's leading low food production' (should be 'which leads to low food production') and 'protecting endanger species' (should be 'endangered'). Subject-verb agreement is occasionally inconsistent, such as 'Rising global temperature have'. Despite these errors, the meaning is generally clear, and the mistakes do not impede communication. To improve, focus on mastering complex sentence structures and proofreading for small errors like article usage and verb endings.
