Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some people say that the main environmental problem of our time is the loss of particular species of plants and animals. Others say that there are more important environmental problems.
Now we can discuss the fist view The loss of particular species of plants and animals is the main environmental problem Every species plays a role in maintaining ecological balance.
The extinction of one species can affect the entire food chain.
Example: The disappearance of bees reduces pollination, leading to lower crop production. All plants and animals have a job in nature.
If one species disappears, it can affect other animals and plants. Fewer species make forests, rivers, and oceans less healthy.
This can cause more environmental problems. Climate change affects everyone.
Climate change affects everyone.
It causes floods, droughts, heatwaves, and melting ice.
It harms people, animals, and plants around the world Air and water pollution make people sick.
It also kills fish, birds, and other animals.
Plastic waste pollutes rivers and oceans, harming marine life and damaging ecosystems.
Global warming causes floods, droughts, heatwaves, and rising sea levels, which threaten both humans and wildlife.
These environmental problems are also one of the main reasons why many plant and animal species are disappearing. In my opinion, although protecting endangered plants and animals is very important, climate change and pollution are even more serious issues. They affect not only wildlife but also human health, agriculture, and the global economy.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both views and provides a clear opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial, and the essay fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which negatively impacts the overall task achievement. While the arguments regarding biodiversity and climate change are relevant, they are presented in short, fragmented sentences that lack the depth required for a higher band. To improve, you should expand on your points with more detailed explanations and ensure you meet the length requirement to allow for a more thorough exploration of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay lacks a clear structure. The paragraphs are very short, and there is an absence of effective cohesive devices to link ideas together. For example, the transition between the discussion of species loss and climate change is abrupt. The text reads more like a list of points rather than a cohesive argument. To improve, you should use linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'on the other hand') to connect sentences and ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence followed by supporting details.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is functional but basic. You rely on simple terms like 'main', 'important', and 'bad'. There is some repetition of phrases, such as 'climate change affects everyone' and 'environmental problems'. To achieve a higher band, you need to use a wider range of vocabulary, including less common lexical items and collocations related to environmental science. For instance, instead of 'main environmental problem', you could use 'pressing ecological concern' or 'significant environmental challenge'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The grammar is generally understandable, but the sentence structures are repetitive and simple. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, such as relative clauses or conditional sentences, which are necessary for higher bands. You also have some punctuation issues and fragmented sentences. For example, 'Now we can discuss the fist view The loss...' is missing proper punctuation. Focusing on combining simple sentences into more complex ones using conjunctions and relative pronouns will help improve your grammatical range.
