Student answer (Band 7.0)
Environmental problems have become a major concern worldwide. while some people believe that the extintion of perticular species is the most serious issue, others argue that problems such as climate change and pollution are more significant. these essay fill discuss both views before presinting my opinion.
On the one hand, the loss of plant and animal species can have serious consequenses for the natural environment. every spesieses plays a roll in maintaing egological balance, and the disapperence of one spcies may affect many others. for example, the extintion of bees could reduce pollination, which is essential for growth of many crops. furthermore, the distructuion of forest and natural habitats has already cause several species to become endengered. therefore, proticting biodiversity is essential for maintaing healthy ecosystem.
On the other hand, there are environmental problems that affects humans and nature on a much larger scal;e. climate change, air pollution and water contamination are perticularly serious because they can influence entire countries and future generations. rising global temprature can cause extreme weather, melting glasiors and rising sea levels. similarly, air pollution from vehicals and factories can lead to respiratory diseases and reduce quality of life for millions of people. these problems can also contibute to the loss of world life, meaning that the environmental issues are often closely connected.
In my opinion, altough the extintion of species is a serious consern, climate change and pollution are more important environmental problems because of their widespead and long terms effects. environment should therefore invest in renewable energy, control industrial pollution and protect natural habitats.
in conclusion, both biodiversity loss and broader environmental problems desearve attention. however, tackleing climate change and pollution should be prioritised because solving these issues can also help protect emdengered plant and animals.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The essay addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both the loss of species and broader environmental issues like climate change. A clear position is established in the introduction and maintained throughout the response. The ideas are relevant and supported with examples, such as the role of bees in pollination and the impact of industrial pollution on human health. While the arguments are logical, they could be further extended to reach a higher band; for instance, the link between biodiversity loss and climate change is mentioned but could be explored with more depth to fully develop the argument. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'furthermore', and 'in conclusion' are used effectively to link ideas. However, there are minor issues with paragraphing conventions, such as the lack of capitalization at the start of sentences (e.g., 'these essay', 'in conclusion'), which makes the structure appear slightly less professional. Despite these mechanical errors, the overall flow of the argument remains clear and coherent throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'biodiversity', 'pollination', 'ecosystem', and 'renewable energy'. However, there are frequent spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'extintion', 'perticular', 'spesieses', 'roll', 'distructuion', and 'temprature'. These errors are noticeable and detract from the overall quality of the writing. While the range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, the high frequency of spelling mistakes limits the score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is an attempt to use complex sentences, such as 'Although the extinction of species is a serious concern, climate change and pollution are more important...', which shows a good grasp of subordinating conjunctions. However, there are frequent errors in punctuation and capitalization, such as starting sentences with lowercase letters and missing commas. Additionally, there are minor grammatical slips like 'these essay fill discuss' instead of 'this essay will discuss' and 'affects' instead of 'affect'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score.
