Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is illustrate that some individuals believe that extinction of plants and animals are the main environmental problems while some argue that there are many other problems of environment. In my opinion, other huge number of issues faced by environment than extinct species.

Some individuals says that plants and animals that are no more on this planet are major causes of ecological issues. For example, someone concerned about the extinction of wildlife if any creature is extincted by overhunting and loss of habitat due to forming. It results in increment in number of their predators. Moreover, it caused the breakdown of food chain and food web which considered harmful for environment as well as demolish the environmental balance. However, it can be protected by lessen overhunting and preserved their generations through breeding.

On the other hand, the persons who argue that there are many other environmental challenges that seems to be faced today.  For instance, climate change, over population, plastic wastes, overuse of water and electricity,  air and noise pollution are the main issues. Today, mostly individual preferred to use their own vehicles cause more traffic that cause noise and air pollution. Furthermore, the overuse of plastic containers cause plastic waste which is the major environmental problem. However, these problems can be overcome by saving water and electricity at home and recycled the plastic wastes and use public transport  instead of personal. Planting of trees also played vital role thus, small steps can make big differences.

From my perspective, climatic changes, increasing number of population, plastic wastes etc are the major causes of environmental degradation in contrast to extinct organisms.

In conclusion, plastic wastes, overpopulation and more use of water are  significantly harmful for environment rather than extinction of species.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention the extinction of species and other environmental issues like climate change and pollution, the arguments lack depth and specific, well-explained examples. For instance, the explanation of the food chain is quite brief. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with more detailed reasoning or concrete evidence. Your position is consistent throughout the essay, which is a strength.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'However', and 'On the other hand' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions between sentences feel abrupt. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the phrase 'the persons who argue that there are many other environmental challenges that seems to be faced today', which lacks a clear predicate. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'ecological issues', 'environmental degradation', and 'overhunting'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'extincted' (should be 'extinct' or 'driven to extinction'), 'forming' (likely meant 'farming'), and 'mostly individual preferred' (should be 'most individuals prefer'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To improve, focus on learning word families and common collocations related to environmental topics.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt to use complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('Some individuals says', 'mostly individual preferred') and verb forms ('which considered harmful', 'recycled the plastic wastes'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors in sentence construction that occasionally distract the reader. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your verb tenses are consistent throughout the essay.
