Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response is significantly under-length, containing only 104 words against the 250-word requirement. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. While the introduction attempts to outline both views, the essay stops abruptly after the first paragraph, failing to provide a conclusion or a fully developed argument. The ideas presented are underdeveloped and the response lacks the necessary depth to meet the requirements of the prompt. To improve, you must ensure you write at least 250 words, fully explore both sides of the argument, and provide a clear, supported personal opinion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay shows some attempt at logical organization by using transition signals like 'On the one hand' and 'Moreover'. However, because the response is incomplete and cuts off mid-sentence, there is no overall progression of ideas. Paragraphing is present but insufficient due to the lack of a full body and conclusion. The connection between ideas is mechanical, and the abrupt ending severely impacts the coherence of the piece. To improve, focus on structuring your essay with a clear introduction, two distinct body paragraphs, and a concluding summary.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for basic communication, such as 'extinction', 'human intervention', and 'pivotal role'. However, there are errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'primary reason of environmental problem' (should be 'primary environmental problem') and 'various other environment problems which needs' (should be 'environmental problems which need'). The range is limited, and the vocabulary does not demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands. Expanding your range of academic collocations and ensuring subject-verb agreement will help improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains several grammatical errors that affect clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'problems which needs' instead of 'problems which need', and 'there are numerous type of plants' instead of 'types of plants'. Sentence structures are relatively simple, and the attempt at a complex sentence in the first paragraph is marred by awkward phrasing. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like pluralization and verb agreement.
