Student answer (Band 7.5)
Issues related to Environmental issues are frequently discussed nowadays and growing concerns are becoming heated question among people that Environmental issues are becoming more serious, and people have different opinions about which one is the most urgent. According to me although biodiversity loss is critical, climate change and pollution are more pressing problems today.
As far as the matter is concerned, i would like to stamp the mark on this view by stating that Environmental issues are becoming more serious. To justify it, the first and foremost point which strikes my mind is that those who say species extinction is the biggest problem argue that biodiversity is essential for a healthy ecosystem. Every plant and animal plays a role in the food chain, and if one species disappears, it can have a domino effect on others. For example, the decline in bee populations has already affected crop pollination in many countries, including India, which threatens food security. Furthermore, many medicines are derived from plants. If we lose these species before we discover them, we may lose potential cures for diseases. Therefore, protecting endangered species is seen as protecting the future of humanity.
However, others believe that issues like climate change, air pollution, and deforestation are more important. This is because these problems affect the entire planet and all living things, not just specific species. For instance, rising global temperatures are causing floods, droughts, and heatwaves that displace millions of people every year. Air pollution in cities like Delhi leads to respiratory diseases for the whole population. Unlike the extinction of one species, these problems have immediate and widespread consequences for human health and the economy. In my view, while losing biodiversity is tragic and irreversible, climate change and pollution are more urgent because they impact human life directly on a daily basis. We need to tackle these large-scale problems first, while also running conservation programs for endangered species.
In conclusion, both views have merit. The loss of species is a serious symptom of environmental damage, but I believe that broader issues such as climate change pose a greater threat to our time and should be prioritized.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt. You clearly discuss both views regarding the importance of biodiversity loss versus other environmental issues like climate change and pollution. Your own position is established in the introduction and maintained consistently throughout the essay. The ideas are well-developed, particularly the examples regarding bee populations and the impact of pollution in Delhi, which provide strong support for your arguments. The conclusion effectively summarizes your stance. To reach a higher band, ensure that the introduction is more concise and avoids repetitive phrasing, as the opening sentence is slightly wordy and redundant.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central theme, and you use cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'However', and 'For instance' to link your points effectively. The paragraphing is appropriate, separating the two viewpoints from your own analysis. While the flow is generally smooth, some of the transitions could be more sophisticated to avoid a slightly mechanical feel. Overall, the information is presented in a coherent manner that is easy for the reader to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with precision. Phrases like 'domino effect', 'respiratory diseases', and 'irreversible' show an ability to use topic-specific language effectively. There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'stamp the mark on this view', which is not a standard idiomatic expression. However, these do not impede communication. To improve, try to incorporate more varied collocations and avoid repeating the word 'issues' or 'problems' too frequently by using synonyms like 'challenges', 'dilemmas', or 'environmental crises'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
The essay displays a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. You use subordinate clauses effectively, such as 'If we lose these species before we discover them, we may lose potential cures'. While there are occasional errors, such as the capitalization of 'i' and the slightly awkward phrasing in the first paragraph, the majority of your sentences are error-free. Your control over punctuation and grammar is generally strong, allowing for clear communication of your ideas. Continued practice with complex sentence variety will help you achieve a higher score.
