Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Some people argue that the biggest current environmental problem is the extinction of particular species of animals and plants, whereas other believe there are many other important aspects of environmental damage. Environmental pollution has damaged the ecological life which led to loss of rare animals and plant species which contribute towards the nature. Also, there are other major problem of environmental problems such as global warming, forest fires and flooding which needs to be resolved for a better and safe environment.
On the one hand, it is clear that we have lost many species of animals as well as plants from many years, which is still continuing, whether to stop this, people need to take necessary actions to prevent such extinction of species. Due to environmental pollution, the habitat of wildlife is destroyed, which is the reason there is an ecological imbalance in the nature. To overcome such problem, government took initiatives and built Wildlife sanctuaries in order to protect the animals by creating a safe environment for them.
On the other hand, others believe there are many other factors which are being affected by the environmental damage and needs to be resolved. For example, due to global warming the glaciers are melted, which leads to rise in the water levels, this caused major flooding in the lower lying regions. Moreover, increase in temperatures has resulted in forest fires, causing damage to the wildlife and surrounding habitats.
In my opinion, if people try to manage solving the factors leading to environmental damage, then many of the problems will be resolved, as wildlife will start regrowing and other problems may gradually disappear.
In conclusion, these environmental problems are usually caused by ignorance of the factors effecting the environment, people should take measures in order to solve the problem which is caused globally in order to protect the wildlife as well as other species.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both the importance of biodiversity loss and other environmental issues like global warming. A position is stated in the fourth paragraph, though it is somewhat vague. While the ideas are relevant, they are not fully developed; for instance, the link between solving general environmental factors and the automatic recovery of wildlife is asserted rather than explained with specific evidence or logical depth. To reach a higher band, you should provide more concrete examples or detailed reasoning to support your arguments, rather than relying on general statements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'Moreover', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as in the final paragraph where the connection between 'the problem which is caused globally' and the previous arguments is slightly unclear. The progression of ideas is generally logical, but the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence builds more naturally upon the previous one.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'ecological imbalance', 'wildlife sanctuaries', and 'glaciers'. However, there is a lack of more sophisticated or 'less common' vocabulary that would demonstrate a higher level of lexical control. Some word choices are slightly repetitive or imprecise, such as 'major problem of environmental problems' or 'factors leading to environmental damage'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and academic synonyms to avoid repetition and add nuance to your arguments.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'other believe' (should be 'others believe'), 'factors... which... needs to be resolved' (subject-verb agreement), and 'glaciers are melted' (passive voice usage). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some run-on sentences, such as in the third paragraph where multiple clauses are joined by commas. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences and paying closer attention to subject-verb agreement and article usage will help you achieve a higher score.
