Student answer (Band 6.5)

Some people believe that in the present time the primary reason of environmental problem is the extinction of particular species of plants and animals. While others opine that there are various other environment problems which needs a rapid attention. Moreover, there are numerous type of plants and animals are no longer available in forest due to human intervention in the dense forest. While, Climate change is a real concern which played a pivotal role to worsen overall environment of the earth.

On the one hand, extinction of the specific species of flora and fauna can create a direct impact on the agricultural industry. As the agricultural is the back bone of economy, excessive use of pesticide and chemicals can leads to soil degradation and some crucially important species of plant eventually end up in extinction. Furthermore, rare species of animals are decreasing at alarming rate due to human intervention. To cite an example, in the remote area bee population is decreasing, which play a pivotal role in honey production. Additionally, the natural world is indispensable for medical research, and it would be the crucial resources to find cure for uncurbable disease.

On the other hand, climate change is happening due to pollution ascending from vehicle fumes is also one of reasons for environmental problems. In addition to it, in many industries waste chemicals discharge directly in river stream, which is not only degrade the soil quality but also contaminate pure water, as a result it endanger aquatic life . Notably, surge in infrastructure is real problem in this current time infrastructure expanding beyond to the limit ,in fact many developers started deforesting to meet the demand for specious infrastructure.

To sum up, mass extinction of flora and fauna can create catastrophic situation in human cycle. Eventually, it effects overall environment. I believe reducing the wide spread pollution would be the pragmatic solution.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both views regarding environmental problems and provides a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the first body paragraph discusses species loss, the second paragraph shifts to climate change and pollution, which are distinct issues. The connection between these points could be more tightly focused on the prompt's core debate. The ideas are relevant, but some points, such as the mention of 'infrastructure' and 'specious' (likely meaning spacious), are slightly underdeveloped or unclear in their relevance to the main argument. Overall, the task is addressed, but the depth of analysis could be improved to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used throughout, such as 'On the one hand,' 'Furthermore,' and 'To sum up,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'Moreover, there are numerous type of plants and animals are no longer available.' The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. Despite these minor issues, the progression of ideas is logical, and the paragraphing is appropriate for the task.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'indispensable,' 'pragmatic,' and 'catastrophic.' However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'uncurbable disease' (incurable), 'specious infrastructure' (spacious), and 'human cycle.' These errors do not impede communication, but they do highlight a limitation in precision. Expanding the range of natural collocations would significantly improve the score in this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'there are numerous type of plants... are no longer available') and article usage. Errors such as 'agricultural is the back bone' and 'can leads to' are noticeable. Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some issues with sentence boundaries and comma usage. The errors are frequent enough to be noticeable, but they rarely prevent the reader from understanding the intended meaning.
