Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both views and provides a personal opinion, meeting the basic requirements of the prompt. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. While you mention biodiversity and pollution, the arguments lack depth and specific, well-explained examples. The conclusion is present but brief. Additionally, the response falls one word short of the 250-word minimum, which necessitates a penalty in this criterion. To improve, ensure that each body paragraph fully explores the 'why' and 'how' of your arguments rather than listing points, and ensure you meet the minimum word count to avoid unnecessary deductions.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' to signal shifts in the argument. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally unclear (e.g., 'this major issue' in the conclusion is vague). To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the transition between ideas within paragraphs is smoother and more logical.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There are several instances of incorrect word forms or inappropriate choices, such as 'viral' instead of 'vital', 'extrict' instead of 'extinct', and 'global worming' instead of 'global warming'. These errors occasionally distract the reader. To improve, focus on learning the correct collocations and word forms for common environmental topics. Expanding your vocabulary to include more academic and precise terms will significantly enhance the quality of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there is a high frequency of grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'some says', 'it can affects'), article usage (e.g., 'the air pollution'), and sentence fragments or awkward phrasing (e.g., 'Environmental problem is the major role in the now days'). These errors are frequent and sometimes impede the flow of communication. To improve, you should dedicate time to reviewing basic grammar rules, particularly verb tenses, pluralisation, and the correct use of articles.
