Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the essay attempts to address both views and provide an opinion, the arguments are underdeveloped and lack depth. The introduction is vague, and the body paragraphs rely on simplistic examples that do not fully explore the complexity of the environmental issues mentioned. The position is stated but lacks the necessary supporting evidence or logical progression to be considered well-developed. To improve, you must expand your points with specific examples and ensure you meet the length requirement to allow for a comprehensive discussion of the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is weak. The use of cohesive devices is very limited and often mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'for instance' and 'that is why'. There is a lack of transition between ideas, making the progression feel disjointed. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the overall structure lacks the sophistication required for higher bands. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that connects logically to the next, creating a smoother narrative flow throughout the essay.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is basic and often imprecise, which limits the clarity of your arguments. Phrases like 'important living place challenging' and 'sold out plots' are unnatural and indicate a limited range of vocabulary. There are also frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'selling these wooden' instead of 'selling this timber'. The range is insufficient to express complex ideas effectively. To improve, try to learn collocations and topic-specific vocabulary related to environmental issues, and focus on using words that accurately convey your intended meaning rather than relying on simple, repetitive language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'everyone in our society are trying'), article usage, and sentence structure. The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences with some errors in punctuation and capitalization. Complex sentence attempts are rare and often contain errors. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Once these are consistent, practice incorporating more complex structures like relative clauses and conditional sentences to demonstrate greater control.
