Student answer (Band 5.0)
Losing of particular species of plants and animals is one of the major environmental problems. There is no life without plants and animals, as indirectly, they are the necessities of life. People get food from animals, like goat, camel, sheep and many others. On the other hands, plants and trees are vital for providing us with oxygen. We can not just ignore the fact, that how important are plants to our lives. They provide us with shelter, food, and also are the safe space for many animals. Growing plants around the world brings peace, it shows us the beauty of nature and greenery. Cutting down of plants brings nothing but destruction. Today, every corner of the country is polluted with harmful chemicals and bacteria, which can cause various diseases. The only factor saving us from such diseases are the presence of plants. That is how great of a blessing it is to have nature around us. Others do say that there are more important environmental issues, but they are not as much problematic than these.
For example, many young and old people are suffering from lung disease. A great number of patients are recorded in Asia, where citizen are suffering. The only problem is the deadly environment from which they inhale on daily basis. Not only diseases, it is the cause of the demolition of the ozone layer. That is a major concern nowadays, for current and future generation.
In conclusion, it is generally accepted that plants and species are really significant for human lives and we should give them the importance.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt but lacks depth. While you acknowledge both views, the discussion of 'other' environmental problems is vague and underdeveloped. You mention lung disease and the ozone layer, but you do not clearly explain why these might be considered 'more important' than biodiversity loss, nor do you provide a balanced comparison. Your own opinion is stated in the conclusion, but it lacks the necessary supporting arguments throughout the body paragraphs. To improve, ensure each viewpoint is given equal weight with specific, logical reasons and examples that directly address the prompt's requirement to discuss both sides before presenting your own stance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The transition between the importance of species and the mention of other environmental issues is abrupt. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the other hands' and 'For example', but they are sometimes used incorrectly or mechanically. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'they are not as much problematic than these', where the referents are ambiguous. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that flows logically into the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You rely on basic descriptors like 'major', 'great', and 'important'. There are also some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'Losing of particular species' (should be 'The loss of'), 'citizen are suffering' (should be 'citizens are suffering'), and 'demolition of the ozone layer' (a more natural term would be 'depletion'). To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to environmental science and work on using more sophisticated synonyms to avoid repetition.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'The only factor saving us... are the presence' (subject-verb agreement error), 'they are not as much problematic than these' (incorrect comparative structure), and 'how important are plants to our lives' (incorrect word order for an indirect question). Punctuation is generally functional, but the frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on subject-verb agreement and refining your use of comparative structures.
