Student answer (Band 5.0)

In the contemporary era, environmental problems are the root cause of the world. Some people believe that environmental problem of our time is the loss of particular species of plants and animals. This essay intends to discuss my perspective along with the suitable arguments in the subsequent paragraphs.

I strongly believe that there are various kinds of main environmental problems that are also important. Additonally, global warming is a grave issue of the world as a result our globe is producing heat as well as less air to breath. Furthermore, deforestation is also a root cause, as people are cutting more and more trees and our oxygen to breath is becoming less in the environment. Apart from this, factories are creating pollution to the environment which is causing our health and we are surrounded by harmful diseases.

Further enhancing my views there are more important environmental problems such as water pollution. For example, 60% of the country's people drink water from rivers and oceans which is harmful for our body. In addition, melting glaciers, floods, droughts, earthquakes are also problems for our world.

However, it is believed that problems of loss of species of plants and animals also plays a significant role in our lives. Moreover, loss of particular species like white tigers, dinosaurs are now gone from the world.

Different people have different opinions about the statement but I have sound reasons to advocate that main environmental problems like water, air pollution, cutting of trees and more should be solved in the further years.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both views, but the development is uneven. While you mention the loss of species and other environmental issues, the discussion lacks depth. For instance, the mention of 'dinosaurs' is irrelevant to current environmental debates, and the argument regarding '60% of the country's people' lacks a specific context or logical connection to the global scale of the prompt. The position is clear, but the supporting ideas are often repetitive or under-developed. To improve, ensure each point is supported by a clear explanation or a relevant, realistic example that directly addresses the prompt's focus on the 'main' environmental problem.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive (e.g., 'Furthermore', 'Apart from this', 'In addition'). Some transitions feel forced, and the logical progression between sentences is occasionally weak. For example, the jump from discussing global warming to deforestation and then to factory pollution within one paragraph lacks a unifying theme. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would significantly enhance the flow and coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. You rely on basic terms like 'environmental problems' and 'root cause' repeatedly. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'producing heat as well as less air to breath' and 'creating pollution to the environment'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more sophisticated vocabulary related to environmental science (e.g., 'biodiversity loss', 'anthropogenic factors', 'mitigation strategies') and ensure that words are used in their correct collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity, such as 'environmental problem of our time' (missing article), 'oxygen to breath' (should be 'breathe'), and 'solved in the further years' (incorrect word choice). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are issues with sentence boundaries and article usage throughout. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed accurately without losing their intended meaning.
