Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response attempts to address the prompt but fails to clearly articulate the two opposing views. The arguments regarding environmental protection versus economic development are underdeveloped and often confusing. The student mentions 'waste of time' and 'new schemes' without clearly explaining the debate surrounding species loss versus other environmental issues. The position is stated as 'both of equal advantages and disadvantages,' but the supporting arguments are disjointed and do not effectively address the specific topic of species extinction. The response lacks the depth and clarity required for a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is severely hampered by poor sentence structure and a lack of clear cohesive devices. Transitions such as 'In one hand' and 'In other hand' are used incorrectly, and the internal structure of sentences makes it difficult to follow the writer's train of thought. Referencing is often unclear, and the relationship between ideas is frequently obscured by grammatical errors, making the overall flow of the essay disjointed and difficult to read.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary is very limited and often inaccurate. The student relies on basic, repetitive words and struggles with collocations. For example, 'waste of time to development of environment' and 'enrollment safety' (likely a misuse of 'environmental') demonstrate a lack of control over word choice. There is no attempt to use less common or academic vocabulary. The frequent misuse of words often impedes the reader's understanding of the intended meaning, which is characteristic of a lower band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The essay contains frequent and severe grammatical errors that significantly impact communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement, article usage, and sentence construction. Many sentences are fragmented or run-on, such as 'In my view both of equal advantages and disadvantages.' The lack of control over basic sentence structures means that the reader must constantly guess the intended meaning. Complex structures are attempted but are almost always faulty, leading to a lack of clarity throughout the entire piece.
