Student answer (Band 5.5)

There is an argument where some believe that nowadays, the main environmental issues is the loss of some particular wildlife and plantation, while other argue that there are more crucial environmental problems. It is true that many animals and plants are endangered and there are many pressing matters regarding our nature but my stance is that these environmental issues are the reason for the loss of particular species of plants and animals.

It is a fact that many species of biodiversity are in danger in recent times. This is an environmental issue as flora and fauna builds, creates and sustain our nature. For example, bees help with pollination of various flowers and vegetables. But there are some other underlining environmental problems such as global warming, thinner ozone layers, rise in sea levels etc which needs to be researched and solved as soon as possible as it is life threatening to all living organism.

I believe that most of these environmental issues have direct relation to bring harm to the wildlife. It is because nature is the habitat for these plants and animals thus, harm to the nature is harm to these species of biodiversity. For instance, global warming increased the time period for many species of animals who hibernate during summer. This cause them to have less food for consumption eventually causing to die while hibernating. Thus, the environmental issues are the reason why particular species of plants and animals are in danger in modern times.

In conclusion, I believe that managing these environmental problems will eventually help restore the species of biodiversity as opposed to focusing on only one environmental dillema.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention biodiversity loss and broader issues like global warming, the connection between them could be more deeply explored. The argument that environmental issues cause species loss is a strong central thesis, but the supporting examples, such as the mention of bees or hibernation, are brief. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with more detailed explanation or evidence to demonstrate a more sophisticated grasp of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. You use some cohesive devices such as 'For example', 'But', and 'Thus' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel a bit abrupt. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the overall progression could be smoother. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the relationship between sentences is more fluid, rather than relying on a standard list of connectors.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'biodiversity', 'pollination', and 'underlining'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'plantation' (which refers to a farm or estate rather than plants in general) and 'dillema' (spelled incorrectly). Additionally, the phrase 'direct relation to bring harm' is slightly awkward. To achieve a higher score, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensure that your word choices are natural and contextually appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('environmental issues is', 'flora and fauna builds'), and minor punctuation or spelling slips ('dillema'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and proofread for common spelling errors to ensure your writing is more polished.
