Student answer (Band 5.0)

Some people believe that the biggest environmental problem loss species of plants and animals. However other people think that there are more environmental problem. I will be given my own opinion in the next paragraphs.

On the hand the loss of plants and animals is a serious environmental problems nowadays. Many plants and animals are disappearing dur to to hunting and deforesting. Forest called the home of this plants and animals if the people cut the forest so those animals and plants are loss their natural habits and their homes.

On the other hand there are lots of environmental problems that may be more important than environmental species. For Example, climate change and global warming problem. Global warming and climate change is a very effected to environment nowadays. Due to global warming suddenly climate changed in some areas there are falling lots of rain and in some areas there are no rain. The lights of sun directly fall on the ice mountain due to global warming and smelt this ice. Another important thing is air pollution, water pollution and noise pollution. Gases that can be caused by factories and vehicles is a harmful for environment. Also Noise pollution from the vehicle horns is a big problem in big cities. This problem affected the plants and animals as well as humans. Polluted kill fishes and other water insects.

In Conclusion, In my opinion, Climate change and global warning and different type of pollution affected the environment so people try to save the environment not cut the trees.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion, meeting the basic requirements of the task. However, the development of ideas is limited. For instance, the discussion on species loss is repetitive and lacks specific examples, while the section on other environmental problems is a list of issues rather than a cohesive argument. The position is stated but lacks depth, and the conclusion is somewhat abrupt. To improve, you should aim to provide more detailed explanations and concrete examples to support your claims, ensuring that each paragraph contributes meaningfully to your overall argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'On the hand' (should be 'On the one hand') and the repetitive use of 'Another important thing'. The progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed, particularly in the transition between the discussion of climate change and pollution. Referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the logical flow of your argument. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words will help create a smoother, more professional structure.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'big problem' and 'environmental problems'. There are several instances of incorrect word choice and collocation, such as 'loss species' instead of 'loss of species', 'smelt this ice' instead of 'melt this ice', and 'polluted kill fishes' instead of 'pollution kills fish'. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the lack of precision and the frequent errors in word form hinder the overall quality of the writing. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise academic terms and focusing on correct collocations would significantly improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('Global warming and climate change is'), missing articles ('cut the forest'), and incorrect verb forms ('I will be given my own opinion'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas. While the errors do not completely prevent communication, their frequency is high and affects the readability of the text. To reach a higher band, you should practice using a wider variety of complex sentence structures and focus on proofreading to eliminate basic grammatical slips.
