IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people say that the main environmental problem of our time is the loss of particular species of plants and animals. Others say that there are more important environmental problems. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent years, some believed that the significant environmental issue in today's period is the lack of different species of plants and animals. While, other argue that it should be more focused on other essential environmental problems. I believe that the problem such as climate change and pollution are equally effect on environment and ecosystem.
On the one hand, the loss of plants and animals is a serious issue for environment. Many species become extinct because of deforestation, hunting, urbanisation and the distruction of natural habitats. This loss can effect on entire ecosystem because every species play an significant role to maintain ecological balance. To illustrates, the disappearance of certain insects can affect pollination, which may subsequently reduce the production of fruits and other crops. Furthermore, it cannot be recovered, making biodiversity loss an irreversible issue.
On the other hand, there are several other environmetal issue that deserve equal attention. climate change is particularly dangerous because rising temperature are causing more frequent heatwaves, drought and flood. Additionally, pollution is another major problem for environment, which is damage the entire environment and it negatively affect on ecosystem. For example, the increasing amount of vehicles are polluted nature. In addtion, industries and factories are eqally polluted the environment.
In my opinion, it is difficult to identify one major environmental problem as the single most important because these issue are closely connected. Climate change, polluiton and deforestration can all contribute to the loss of plants and animals.
In light of the above, the disappearance of plants and animals is a highly serious problem, but climate change, pollution and deforestration depicts also critical. A comprehensive approach tackles these inerconnected problems simultaneously is the most effective way to protect the environment for future generations

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and supported with examples, such as the impact of insect loss on pollination and the consequences of climate change. However, the development is somewhat limited; the arguments are presented in a straightforward manner without deep exploration. The position is consistent throughout, but the conclusion could be more robust in synthesising the arguments. Overall, the response meets the requirements of the task well, though it lacks the depth required for a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organised with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different viewpoints. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'Furthermore' are used to guide the reader. However, there is some mechanical use of these devices, and the flow between sentences is occasionally slightly disjointed. Referencing is generally clear, but the transition between the discussion of biodiversity and the broader environmental issues could be smoother to enhance the overall progression of ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, covering the topic with relevant terms like 'biodiversity', 'ecological balance', 'deforestation', and 'urbanisation'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'are equally effect on environment' (should be 'equally affect the environment') and 'are polluted nature' (should be 'pollute nature'). While the student attempts to use less common vocabulary, these errors occasionally distract from the message. The range is sufficient to convey meaning, but more precise and varied lexical choices would be needed for a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb forms and subject-verb agreement, such as 'some believed' (should be 'some believe'), 'other argue' (should be 'others argue'), and 'industries and factories are eqally polluted' (should be 'equally pollute'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors throughout. While these errors do not impede communication, they are persistent and indicate a lack of full control over complex structures, which limits the score in this criterion.
