Student answer (Band 5.0)

Nowadays many people believe that main ecosystem issue of our time is the loss of species of plants and animals, while other think that more crucial environmental problems. This essay will discuss the both views before giving my own opinion.

On the one hand, some people believe that the mai environmental problems loss of the species in plants and animals. This is because we can see that plenty of plants and animals disturb the ecosystem. For instance, people want to grow the plants, they do not take care them, although they just spread the pollution which effect on the people health. Therefore, most of the individuals keep the different animals and they do not take care, and those animals all time spend in the roads, which create the problem for the natural.

On the other hand, others think that more vital Ecological problems. one reason is that, people spread the pollution in open area , which caused of the health. For example, people used the water for drink, and the water passed through the river, but around the river alot of garbage. so it is damage the people health and create the different types of diseases. Pollution and smoke, and factory make the issue for environmental.

In my opinion, I believe that more important environmental problems, because if the environment clean then everything will be going good for people and health.

In conclusion, Both views have their own advantages, However i believe that environmental problem is more essential, because it is more beneficial in the long term.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both views and provides a personal opinion, meeting the basic requirements of the prompt. However, the development of ideas is limited and often unclear. For example, the argument regarding species loss is confusingly linked to pet ownership and littering, which does not directly address the ecological significance of biodiversity loss. Similarly, the discussion on pollution is repetitive and lacks specific, well-reasoned examples. The position is stated but remains underdeveloped, lacking the depth required for a higher band. The essay stays on topic, but the arguments are not fully extended or supported with logical evidence.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the progression of ideas is often disjointed. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand' and 'In conclusion', they are sometimes used mechanically or incorrectly. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the link between pollution and the specific environmental problems mentioned is weak. The flow between sentences is frequently interrupted by grammatical errors, making the overall logical progression difficult to follow at times.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary range is limited and often repetitive. The student relies on basic terms like 'problems', 'people', and 'things', which restricts the ability to discuss complex environmental issues with precision. There are several instances of awkward word choices and incorrect collocations, such as 'disturb the ecosystem' (when referring to species loss) and 'create the problem for the natural'. Some words are used incorrectly, such as 'effect' instead of 'affect'. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the general meaning, but it lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors, including missing articles, incorrect verb forms, and sentence fragments. For instance, 'people used the water for drink' and 'factory make the issue for environmental' demonstrate significant issues with subject-verb agreement and word formation. While there is an attempt to use complex sentence structures, these are often faulty and impede clarity. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. The majority of sentences contain errors, which frequently distract the reader and hinder the overall flow of the argument.
