Student answer (Band 6.0)
Numerous individuals think that nowadays major environmental problems are associated with the loss of various species of plants and animals. Others argue that environmental problems are of great attention. In this essay, I will discuss both statements before presenting my opinion about the impacts of environment and habitat loss of various kinds of plants and animals.
On one hand, due to increase in population and human activities in the environment many species of plants and animals are being disturbed which greatly affects the food chain. Furthermore, due to rise in temperature the species mainly die or migrate to other places that are favourable for their survival. For example, the decrease in bees population has major impact on the destruction of plant species as they play role in the pollination.
On the other hand, the drawbacks associated with environmental problems are greater, with the rise of industrialization to meet the needs of consumers and to enhance the economy large amount of wastes are released from the industries that if not properly managed combines with the water resources and directly goes to humans. In addition, the water containing wastes are utilized in agricultural land for irrigation and affects the production of crops and at times destroys the fields in early stages by causing various crop diseases. Futhermore, due to air and water polution many diseases are caused in animals and in humans that ultimately impacts the whole food chain.
In my opinion, local organizations and government must cooperate with each other and introduce sustainable technologies and ehance the use of renewable resouces in factories to reduce the emission of green house gases. In addition, waste management systems must be used for proper dumping of wastes with proper treatment.
In conclusion, the loss of species of plants and animals are considered important but environmental problems have much more impacts as they consequently impact the human-beings as well as other species of plants and animals that are migrating due to habitat loss. I believe government should make policies to protect the biodiversity.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the first body paragraph discusses the loss of species, the second paragraph focuses on general industrial pollution rather than directly contrasting it with the loss of species as a competing 'environmental problem'. The link between the two views could be more explicit. The conclusion effectively summarizes the position, but the essay would benefit from more specific examples or deeper analysis of why one problem might be considered more critical than the other to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'On one hand', 'Furthermore', and 'In addition' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally repetitive. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and there is a clear progression of ideas throughout the text. To improve, you could vary the cohesive devices used to link sentences and ensure that the relationship between the two main arguments is more fluidly connected.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task. You use some topic-specific terms like 'biodiversity', 'sustainable technologies', and 'renewable resources'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'environmental problems are of great attention' (which is unnatural) and 'impacts the whole food chain' (where 'affects' would be more precise). There are also minor spelling errors like 'polution' and 'ehance'. Expanding your range of collocations and ensuring precise word usage would help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'the loss of species... are considered' (subject-verb agreement error) and 'the water containing wastes are utilized' (should be 'is'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some run-on sentences that could be improved with better use of commas or semicolons. The majority of sentences are understandable, but the frequency of minor errors prevents a higher score.
