Student answer (Band 6.5)

Many induviduals think that the main environmental problem is deforesstation and loss of significant animals but other believe that there are more vital problems. In my opinion, loss of particular species of plants is very important issue but pollution is the main reason.

On the one hand, losing plant and animal species disrupts the natural ecosystem. Every living creature plays an essential role in maintaining ecological balance. For example, if certain plants become extinct, animals that rely on them for food will also suffer and die out. Furthermore, many unique plants are used to create vital medicines for human diseases. When these species disappear forever, humans lose invaluable natural resources, which harms both environmental stability and human wellbeing.

On the other side, many people think that a issue like pollution is pose a far greter threat to the earth, such as : vehicales, airplanes, buses because they produce carbon dioxide which is very harmful for our health and environmental system. some people threw waste dump material in rivers and lake as a result, waste chemical destroye marine life. today air, water is a big issue because if we can not prevent our environmental system then our lives would be very dificult. In fact, pollution is often the root cause that destroys natural habitats and kills off various plants and animals in the first place.

In conclusion, although the extinction of plant and animal species is a major concern, I believe that pollution is the most dangerous environmental problem today. It directly impacts the health of all living organisms and causes long-term, widespread damage to the entire planet.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both the loss of species and other environmental problems, while clearly stating a personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed. However, the development of the second body paragraph is slightly uneven; while the link between pollution and species loss is a strong point, the list of examples (vehicles, airplanes, buses) is a bit simplistic. To reach a higher band, ensure that the discussion of 'other environmental problems' is as nuanced as the discussion of biodiversity loss. The position is consistent throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'Furthermore,' and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to guide the reader. However, there are some minor issues with punctuation and spacing, such as missing spaces after commas (e.g., 'problems. In', 'earth, such as :'). Additionally, some transitions are slightly mechanical. Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring consistent punctuation would elevate the coherence of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are some spelling errors, such as 'induviduals,' 'deforesstation,' 'greter,' and 'vehicales.' While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'ecological balance,' 'extinct,' and 'marine life,' the range is somewhat limited. To improve, the student should focus on accuracy in spelling and attempt to incorporate more sophisticated collocations or less common lexical items to demonstrate a wider range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'other believe' (should be 'others'), 'a issue like pollution is pose' (should be 'poses'), and 'if we can not prevent our environmental system' (which is slightly awkward phrasing). Punctuation errors, particularly regarding spacing and the use of colons, are frequent. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur often enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing the variety of error-free complex structures would be beneficial.
