Student answer (Band 6.0)
Many individuals believe that environmental impact is a constant debate in our society today. While some argue that loss of particular species of plants and animals is the most severe environmental issue of our times, other believe there are more environment problems to address.
On the one hand, the loss of species is a critical issue because each specie plays a unique role on its ecosystem and even for a life cycle and responsible for life. The extinction of a specie can have a domino effect, impacting other species and the overall balance of the eco system. For instance, the disappearance of pollinators like bees can affect agriculture and the production of food. Moreover, biodiversity has cultural value many communities and depend on some specific beings not only for their livelihood, but also for their cultural and religious practices.
On the other hand, some argue that climate change, deforestation or water and air pollution could be some of the more urgent environment matters. Climate change itself is problem affecting all forms of life on the other planet, its impact including rising sea levels, extreme weather events and ocean damage, which can lead to biodiversity loss.
In conclusion, even though the later one are more visible in people's daily lives, in my opinion it is difficult to prioritize one problem over another they are all interconnected. A clear example of this would be the linkage between biodiversity loss and climate change. Addressing species loss without considering climate change would be a huge mistake, and so would be vice-versa.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both the loss of species and other environmental concerns while providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and logically developed. However, the development is somewhat brief; for example, the explanation of the 'domino effect' and the link between biodiversity and climate change could be expanded with more specific detail to reach a higher band. The position is consistent throughout the essay, and the conclusion effectively synthesizes the arguments presented in the body paragraphs.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the two opposing views. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'Moreover,' and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, there are minor issues with referencing and flow, such as the phrase 'the later one are' in the conclusion, which is grammatically awkward and slightly disrupts the cohesion. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally appropriate for the task, with some good topic-specific terms like 'biodiversity,' 'extinction,' 'pollinators,' and 'ecosystem.' There are, however, some inaccuracies in word choice and form, such as 'each specie' (should be 'species') and 'the other planet' (which is confusing in context). While the range is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, the lack of more sophisticated or precise collocations limits the score. The errors do not impede communication, but they indicate a need for more careful attention to word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with pluralization and article usage, such as 'each specie' instead of 'each species' and 'the later one are' instead of 'the latter are.' Additionally, there are minor punctuation and phrasing issues, such as 'other believe' (should be 'others believe') and 'they are all interconnected' (which is a comma splice). While the meaning is always clear, the frequency of these small errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band for grammatical accuracy.
