Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is an ongoing debate regarding, the main environmental problems. A group of individual believe that significant decline of plants and animals species is the major problem. However, others argue that, there are more important problems than the latter one. Therefore, ahead of my opinion, both the views will be discussed further.

Examining the former opinion, the primary argument supporters would put forward is that they give more importance to animals and plants because most humans are dependent on them for food, shelter medicines and furniture etc. In addition, they also believe that some projects should be started regarding endangered species to save them from becoming extinct. Furthermore, it can lead to worse consequences in future if they are not get saved.

On the contrary, those in favour of the letter opinion have their own arguments to begin with, they claim that. Several other factors are also important for our livelihood. Moreover, their point is that they want to uprise the resources which are about to end. For instance, water is also considered very important for our ecosystem because if it get ruined living on the earth will become almost extinct.

To conclude and offer my position, there are convincing arguments of both the groups. However, I certainly believes that authority should pay attention to all the resources which are getting significantly reduced due to human greed or any other reason. Furthermore, if appropriate measures are not taken, the situation may become increasingly difficult to control in the coming years.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited. For example, the argument regarding biodiversity is quite generic, mentioning 'food, shelter, medicines' without specific elaboration. Similarly, the counter-argument regarding water is underdeveloped and lacks a clear connection to why it might be considered a 'more important' problem than species loss. The position is clear, but the supporting points lack the depth and specific examples required for a higher band. To improve, you should expand on your points with concrete examples or logical consequences to demonstrate a more thorough exploration of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'Furthermore', and 'On the contrary' to link sentences. However, some of these are used mechanically, and there are occasional issues with referencing, such as 'the latter one' and 'the letter opinion' (which appears to be a misspelling of 'latter'). The flow is generally easy to follow, but the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs could be smoother to avoid sounding formulaic.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range expected at higher levels. There are some noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'uprise the resources' (likely meaning 'conserve' or 'manage') and 'if they are not get saved' (grammatical error affecting lexical accuracy). You rely on fairly common, general terms. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary, such as 'biodiversity loss', 'sustainable management', or 'ecological equilibrium', and ensure that words are used in their correct collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow, such as 'A group of individual believe' (should be 'individuals'), 'if they are not get saved' (should be 'if they are not saved'), and 'if it get ruined' (should be 'if it gets ruined'). Additionally, there are punctuation errors, such as the unnecessary comma in 'regarding, the main environmental problems'. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tense usage.
