Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the prompt but fails to clearly discuss both views or provide a coherent opinion. The introduction is fragmented and lacks a clear thesis statement. While the essay mentions species loss and other environmental issues, the arguments are underdeveloped and often repetitive. The connection between the points made (such as the use of pesticides) and the broader debate about which environmental problem is 'main' is not clearly established. The conclusion does not summarize the two views or clearly state a personal position, which is a requirement of the task. Consequently, the response only partially addresses the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a logical flow. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs is weak, with sentences often disconnected from one another. Cohesive devices are used, but they are frequently inaccurate or misused, such as 'on of the key issues' or 'thus environment pollution minimize'. The referencing is often unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of ideas. The transition between the two sides of the argument is abrupt, and the overall organization does not effectively guide the reader through the discussion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'decline assist of more chemical forms' and 'hygiene that leads to growth of people'. The vocabulary is often imprecise, which hinders the clarity of the arguments. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'pesticides' and 'sustainability', the lack of control over these terms and the frequent grammatical errors in word formation (e.g., 'insecticide' instead of 'insecticides') limit the score. A wider range of precise, academic vocabulary is needed.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are significant issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'others says'), sentence structure (e.g., 'It is widely believe that several people say'), and punctuation. The use of complex structures is attempted but is almost always faulty, leading to confusion. Basic errors in articles, prepositions, and verb tenses are pervasive throughout the text. The student relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and even these are often marred by errors, making it difficult to identify a consistent level of grammatical control.
