Student answer (Band 5.0)
Many people ague that the main surrounding cause of their time to loss of distinct species of plants and animals. While, other believe that there are more crucial environmental causes. I will discuss my both sides in upcoming paragraphs.
To commence with, as majority of people say that they loss different kinds of species by time. To elaborate it, there are extinct of food chains by which there are lack of food for different species and also lack of medical resources. For example, some of medicines make by plants and animals which human's life. As a result, it would be totally extinct in future because doctors need to save their patients. So, they use them.
However, as other say that its environmental causes. To explain it, there are climate changes by which there are various changes in the forests. Moreover, other main reason is deforestation. For instance, people cut forests, to make home furniture and also forest became extinct , as people build their homes and business buildings. Hence, by which there are no forest for animals to live and no place for planting more plants.
To conclude it, Although, there are a lot of changes because of people needs, yet, climate changes are almost affected which can not be ignored. I would say that we should save environment by planting for trees to protect surrounding from harmful things.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While both sides of the argument are mentioned, the discussion is superficial and lacks depth. The ideas regarding biodiversity loss and climate change are introduced but not sufficiently supported with clear, logical examples. The student's own opinion is stated in the conclusion, but it is not well-integrated into the essay's overall argument. To improve, the student needs to expand on their points with more detailed explanations and ensure the essay reaches the required length to allow for a full exploration of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is often hindered by awkward phrasing and limited use of cohesive devices. While some linking words like 'To commence with' and 'However' are used, they are often followed by sentences that do not flow naturally. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the connection between food chains and medical resources is disjointed. The conclusion is abrupt and does not effectively summarise the arguments presented. Improving the use of transition signals and ensuring each paragraph has a clear, unified focus would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and often imprecise. There are several instances of incorrect word choice, such as 'surrounding cause' instead of 'environmental issue' and 'extinct of food chains' instead of 'disruption of food chains'. The student relies on basic vocabulary, which restricts their ability to express complex ideas clearly. There is also a lack of awareness regarding collocations, such as 'make by plants' instead of 'derived from plants'. To achieve a higher band, the student should focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary related to the environment and practice using these words in appropriate contexts.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The grammar is frequently inaccurate, which often impedes the reader's understanding. There are consistent errors in subject-verb agreement, such as 'other believe' and 'some of medicines make by plants'. Sentence structures are generally simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in grammatical errors, such as 'Hence, by which there are no forest'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas. The student needs to focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like verb tense consistency and pluralisation to improve their accuracy.
