Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both views regarding the loss of species versus other environmental issues, but the development is limited. The arguments are repetitive and lack depth, particularly in the explanation of how species loss impacts humans. While a position is stated, it is not consistently maintained or clearly argued throughout the essay. The examples provided, such as the 'Western Sydney University' survey, are vague and lack specific detail, which weakens the overall persuasiveness of the response. To improve, you should focus on providing more detailed explanations for your points and ensuring your own opinion is clearly integrated into the structure of the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is often disjointed. While some cohesive devices are used (e.g., 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', 'To sum up'), they are sometimes used incorrectly or in a way that does not effectively link the sentences. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between ideas is frequently interrupted by grammatical errors. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks a clear topic sentence and supporting evidence that flows naturally. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a singular, clear focus would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'important', 'role', and 'environmental'. There are several instances of word choice errors, such as 'growing tend' instead of 'growing trend' and 'environmental bulk change' which is unclear. Some terms are used incorrectly, such as 'mammals' to refer to all species. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas precisely. To reach a higher band, you should work on using a wider variety of topic-specific vocabulary and focus on correct collocations, such as 'climate change' rather than 'change of climate'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'some individuals says', 'climate have the big roe'), article usage (e.g., 'the other problems of environmental'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or lack proper punctuation, making them difficult to follow. While there is an attempt to use complex structures, they are almost always inaccurate. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and proofreading for common errors like missing or misused articles and prepositions.
