Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response addresses both views regarding whether biodiversity loss is the main environmental problem and attempts to present a position. However, the ideas are severely underdeveloped, highly repetitive, and lack sufficient supporting evidence. Furthermore, the response suffers from a major negative constraint violation, as it is only 192 words long, failing to meet the minimum requirement of 250 words. This significantly impacts task completion. Phrases like "loss of animals and plants are may problem" show a superficial engagement with the prompt. Because the content is too brief and fails to extend the arguments adequately, it aligns most closely with Band 4.5 descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay displays basic structural organisation with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, which meets the criteria for paragraphing at a rudimentary level. However, overall progression is hindered by choppy sentences, erratic punctuation (e.g., spaces before commas and periods), and weak cohesive devices. The transitions such as "To commence with" and "However" are used mechanically. Referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly in the conclusion where clauses run together without proper logical links, as seen in "loss of species is extremely important, climate change and pollution." Overall, the text demonstrates the characteristics of Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently circling back to words like "problem," "important," and "pollution." There are numerous word choice and collocation errors, such as "some population debate" instead of "some people argue" and "pollutes air" instead of "air pollution." While the writer manages to communicate basic concepts related to the environment—using terms like "biodiversity loss," "extinction," and "global warming"—the range is limited, and spelling or form errors (e.g., "eco -system," "raise temperature" instead of "rising temperatures") are noticeable, warranting a Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The grammatical structure is extremely limited, relying mostly on simple sentences or faulty complex structures. There are persistent, frequent errors in basic grammar, subject-verb agreement, and word forms, such as "animals plays crucial role" and "honey bee gives honey." Punctuation control is exceptionally weak, with irregular spacing and missing capitalisation at the beginning of sentences (e.g., "i will discuss"). Because the majority of sentences contain errors and complex structures are frequently inaccurate, the performance reflects a Band 4.5.
