Student answer (Band 5.5)

People have different ideas about the biggest enivronment problem today. Some believe that the the disappering of certain animals and plants is the most serious issue. Other people think that there are worst problem to worry about. In my opinion, losing wildlife is a big problem, but global warming is also important because it causes many environmental issues.

On the on hand, losing different species of plants and animals hurts nature deeply. Every living thing has a job to do in the environment. If one animal or plant disapper the whole food chain network could be disturbed. So its our responsibility to take care of environment and wildlife by ensuring not to cut trees where wildlife is living. For example, if bees disappear from earth and if they will not prey on flowers, the growth of plants and trees will be stucked. Saving wildlife is crucial for survival human being on surface.

On the other hand, global warming also affect wild and plants because day by day economies are growing and deforestation is done on large scale. By doing this temperature patterns change and a threat of glacier melting is also main issue. When the flood come both wildlife and human being are affected. For example, factories waste is thrown into oceans which affect fishes. Factories also use coal and fuel which burn into air pollution and affect the nature.

In conclusion, although losing plants and animals is a serious issues. I think global warming is a big threat, so if we fix climate change we can protect both nature and humans.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on environmental problems and providing a clear personal opinion. For example, the student writes, "In my opinion, losing wildlife is a big problem, but global warming is also important." Ideas are extended with reasons and examples, such as mentioning bees and pollination, and factory pollution causing ocean and air damage. However, some arguments tend to over-generalise and could be better developed to reach higher bands. There are minor spelling and grammatical lapses within the content, but the overall message is conveyed clearly and the prompt requirements are fully met.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay has a clear overall arrangement with four distinct paragraphs representing an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Transitional markers such as "On the on hand," "On the other hand," and "In conclusion" are used to sequence ideas logically. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty, as seen in the typographical error "On the on hand" and occasional awkward referencing. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two conflicting views, though internal logical progression within the body paragraphs occasionally feels repetitive. Overall, the structure is sufficiently coherent to guide the reader through the arguments without difficulty.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using topic-specific terms such as "ecosystem," "biodiversity," "deforestation," and "global warming." However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including "enivronment" instead of environment, "disappering" instead of disappearing, and "worst problem" instead of worse problems. While less common vocabulary is attempted, minor inaccuracies in collocation and form prevent the lexical score from reaching higher bands. Communication is not impeded by these vocabulary errors, but precision and flexibility remain limited.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing conditionals and relative clauses such as "if bees disappear from earth and if they will not prey on flowers..." However, there are frequent grammatical errors and awkward structures, such as "So its our responsibility," "survival human being," and "when the flood come." Tense consistency is occasionally flawed, and punctuation errors appear throughout. While these errors do not severely impede communication, they demonstrate a lack of consistent control over complex grammatical structures, placing the essay firmly within the Band 5.5 to 6.0 range.
