Student answer (Band 5.0)

It is often argue that main environmental problem of our current time is loss of specific plants and animals on earth, while some believe environmental problems is more than this issue. In this essay I will discuss both these views and will give my opinion.

Plants and animals are important part of our natural environemt, Plants captured the carbon from the envionment which helps to reduce the global warming and it also produce oxygen which is essential for every creature on earth. For example, in current time so many plants being cuted or removed from forest for our personal needs but as a result it creates the higher chances of global warming we are already experienced usually higher temprature in summers.

Apart from plants and animals, some other important environmental problem also present in current time, peoples through garbage and polluting the environemnt is also the main concern, This is because many countries are not even controlling the use of plastic bags and emission of different kinds of gasses in the climate as a result this leaves a negative impact on environment and causes the oxygen problem and make the survival of wild life more difficult.

In my opinion, both views have some merit, but I believe that garbage and emission of gasses from large industries in the climate is more problematic issue, because the impact it leaves is larger by creating oxygen problem in climate.

In conclusion, although accepting the removal of plants and animals is sometimes be necessary but trying to improve is generally the better approach.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on environmental problems and providing a clear personal opinion. The student establishes a position in the introduction and maintains it throughout the essay, ultimately arguing that pollution and industrial emissions are more pressing issues. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and under-developed, particularly in the body paragraphs where points about biodiversity loss and pollution lack depth and detailed support. Generalisations are made without sufficient elaboration, placing the response comfortably in Band 5.0 in terms of task coverage and development.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay displays some organisation with a discernible introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion, but overall progression is lacking. The transition between ideas feels abrupt, and cohesive devices are frequently inaccurate or over-used, such as the excessive reliance on comma splices and run-on sentences instead of proper conjunctions or full stops (e.g., 'Plants captured the carbon from the envionment which helps to reduce the global warming and it also produce oxygen...'). Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion is weak, leading to a mechanical feel. These characteristics align with the Band 5 descriptors.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'biodiversity', 'emission', and 'survival', but suffers from frequent spelling errors ('environemt', 'envionment', 'cuted', 'temprature', 'gasses') and word-form inaccuracies (e.g., 'peoples through garbage' instead of 'people throwing garbage'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they cause noticeable difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted lexical range typical of Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response features a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and faulty attempts at complex forms. Frequent grammatical errors are present throughout the text, including tense inconsistencies ('is often argue'), subject-verb agreement issues ('Plants captured... helps'), and incorrect verb forms ('being cuted'). Punctuation is particularly weak, characterised by run-on sentences joined only by commas. These persistent errors cause difficulty for the reader and prevent the grammar score from rising above a Band 4.5 or 5.0.
