Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response attempts to address all parts of the task by discussing both views on environmental problems and stating a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is heavily constrained by severe language limitations. The student introduces the core ideas—such as the loss of plant and animal habitats versus broader environmental issues—but struggles to articulate them clearly. For instance, the phrase 'lack of particular accomodations of plants and animals' is unclear and repetitive. The arguments provided in the body paragraphs lack sufficient elaboration and logical progression, resulting in an under-developed response. Consequently, the performance aligns most closely with Band 4 descriptors, where the task is addressed only minimally or tangentially due to unclear expression and lack of coherent argument development.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The organization of the essay shows an attempt at paragraphing, with an introduction, two body paragraphs, a brief stance restatement, and a conclusion. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions such as 'To begin with the first stage of people whoes argued'. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and often inappropriately, as seen with 'Hence' and 'In other word'. Furthermore, referencing is unclear throughout the text, making it difficult for the reader to follow the train of thought. Paragraphing is also erratic, with incomplete sentences and fragmented thoughts appearing at the end of the text. These issues place the response firmly in Band 4.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is basic, repetitive, and often inaccurate, which severely strains the reader's comprehension. The student relies heavily on inappropriate word choices, such as 'accomodations' instead of habitats or living spaces, and 'valuebale' instead of valuable. Phrases like 'enjoy fresh pollution' demonstrate a fundamental misunderstanding of collocations and word meanings. While there are attempts to use less common words like 'paramount' and 'responible', these are misused grammatically and contextually. Spelling errors are frequent. This level of lexical control matches the descriptors for Band 4, where vocabulary is basic and errors frequently strain the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammatical range is extremely limited, consisting mostly of simple and attempted complex sentences that contain persistent, heavy errors. There is a near-complete lack of error-free sentences. Examples of severe grammatical inaccuracies include subject-verb agreement issues ('people whoes argued'), incorrect verb tenses ('animals were lived and plants were grown'), and fragmented structures ('For instances,'). Punctuation and article usage are also problematic throughout the essay. Because errors are frequent across all sentence types and occasionally distort meaning, the response meets the criteria for a Band 4 in grammatical range and accuracy.
